Chapter 45 We’re Already Married. I’m Your Husband

“Julian said so!” Ursula huffed, “He had something urgent come up, so he asked me to come take care of you first. I’m already on my way to your place. Do you need me to bring anything?”

A faint warmth passed through Rosalie’s heart. She told Ursula to fetch some toiletries and, after a moment’s thought, added, “And my thesis on the desk.”

Fortunately, she was staying in a VIP ward. It was spacious and even had a bed for a companion, so

Ursula could rest as well.

The next morning, the television in the room was playing the morning news. A shocking headline flashed across the screen. “Yarwood Group’s internal network has been hacked. Core data was nearly stolen, with

estimated losses in the billions.”

Ursula was munching on an apple when she heard it and clicked her tongue twice. “Whoever hacked into the Yarwood Group’s firewall is no amateur, I’ll admit. But for the Yarwoods, it’s just a flesh wound. They’ve barely even scratched the surface.”

Rosalie tilted her head to look at her. “You seem to know quite a lot about the Yarwood Group.”

“Of course I do… Ah, I mean, no!” Ursula blurted out instinctively, then quickly backtracked. “Well, not really. It’s just one of those top-tier conglomerates. My dad often brings it up at the dinner table, that’s all.”

Before her words had settled, there was a knock at the door. Then, Julian walked in carrying a thermos

lunchbox.

Ursula, who had been sprawled on the other bed playing video games, jolted upright in shock. She immediately sat upright. “J-Julian.”

Julian didn’t look at her. He went straight to Rosalie’s bedside and asked in a low, steady voice, “Are you feeling better? I just spoke to the doctor. He said you could have some chicken soup.”

His voice was deep and magnetic, like a current brushing past the ear. Rosalie nodded and replied, “Much

better, thank you.”

He bent down and set up the small tray table over her bed. Dressed in a simple black T-shirt, the muscles in his arms stretched into smooth lines under the thin fabric as he leaned forward. Rosalie couldn’t help

but stare for a moment.

When Julian opened the lunchbox, a rich fragrance spread through the room. It was chicken and

mushroom soup, cooked to perfection.

Rosalie recognized the taste immediately-it was from that exclusive, VIP-only private restaurant downtown where a single bowl of soup cost thousands. She had been there once with Abigail.

“Where did you buy this?” she curiously asked.

“Just by some random food stall by the street,” Julian casually replied. “I didn’t catch the name.”

That place required reservations a month in advance, so how could he have just picked it up randomly? Rosalie frowned slightly, wondering if it only tasted similar.

Seeing her quietly lower her head to sip the porridge, Julian finally turned and gave Ursula a brief glance. There was no obvious expression in his eyes, yet Ursula stiffened instantly-she understood.

“Aha! I just remembered! Mom asked me to come home for dinner. Rosa, I’ll head off first! Bye, Julian!” As she finished, Ursula snatched up her bag and practically bolted out of the room.

The ward instantly grew quiet with just the two of them.

Julian pulled a chair over with one hand, straddled it backwards, and fixed his gaze on Rosalie. “Do you have any other friends?” he suddenly asked, “the kind who can come take care of you?”

Rosalie froze with the spoon in her hand and looked up at him. “I do, but we’re not that close.”

“I see,” he said, his tone carrying a hint of resignation. “Then, it looks like I’ll have to take some leave and stay here to look after you.”

Caught off guard, Rosalie waved her hand in response. “There’s no need. I can manage on my own.”

Julian’s brow arched slightly as he crossed his arms, his broad frame making the ward feel smaller. “Have you forgotten, Rosalie? We’re already married. I’m your husband.”

She was just about to say that it was only a contract marriage when his phone rang in his pocket. He answered impatiently. “I’m busy. I’m at the hospital, taking care of my wife.” Then, he hung up.

The word wife slipped from his lips so naturally that Rosalie’s ears turned red in an instant. The warmth spreads from her earlobes all the way to her cheeks.
