Chapter 43 We Have to Stop Her

The smile on Manfred’s face froze.

“What?” He sprang to his feet. “Rosalie left? Why would she leave without seeing me?”

Manfred was upset now. “How could she give up this easily? This won’t do. We have to stop her!”

Before he could end the video call, he was gone in a flash. His apprentice on the other end of the video

call shouted in vain, “Come on, Mr. Fisher! You have to keep your cool!”

In fact, Rosalie didn’t go very far. She merely went to the nearby convenience store to buy herself some

bread. Then, she put some thought into picking some supplements for Manfred before returning to his

private residence.

To her surprise, she had just walked through the door when she saw Manfred coming bursting out. He

was still as mischievous and lively as she remembered him to be, but his hair had gotten grayer.

Rosalie hurriedly stepped forward. “Hi, Prof. Fisher.”

Manfred stopped himself immediately, still wearing a grim expression and refusing to look at her. Turning around, he cast a sharp glance across the plants around the door. Then, he lashed out at the household

staff.

“Look at the flowers and plants here. What have they become? You must’ve forgotten to water them!”

The household staff immediately lowered their heads. “Prof. Fisher, it has been quite hot for the past two

days, but the weather forecast said it’s gonna rain tomorrow…”

“What? Are you a moron?” Manfred cut him off angrily. “You’re waiting for the rain? What if it doesn’t rain? How are you going to take responsibility if they die from a lack of water?”

Rosalie’s heart stirred. There was a subtext in his words, and they were clearly meant for her.

Seeing Manfred searching for something around the door, she immediately put her supplements down. She quickly headed for the watering can at the corner and handed it to him.

He cast a sidelong glance at her, but he didn’t take it.

Rosalie immediately knew what Manfred wanted. Holding the watering can in her hands, she went over to the drooping plants.

She spoke as she watered them. “Prof. Fisher, I was wrong. I was young and naive back then, and I’ve let

you down. You…”

Rosalie trailed off before she went on again, “Will you please give me a chance to redeem myself?”

Manfred turned around and asked the household staff, “Is this young lady talking to me?”

The household staff stifled a chuckle and nodded respectfully. “Yes, Prof. Fisher.”

Manfred raised an eyebrow in feigned surprise. “Geez. Is she actually apologizing to me?”

The household staff nodded again. “That’s right.”

Manfred raised his head all serious-like and glanced at the sky. “That’s strange. I don’t see any pigs flying!”

Rosalie put down the watering can, stood straight again, and looked at him from the back. She

enunciated each word with utmost sincerity.

“Prof. Fisher, I’m sorry.”

Manfred snorted coldly. At last, he dropped his act, turned around, and walked back into his private

residence.

Rosalie’s eyes sparkled. She hurriedly grabbed the supplements and took off after him, speaking quickly

and sincerely.

“Prof. Fisher, take it slow, or you might fall.

“You’re right. I missed the boat, and I was stupid for wasting years of your life. I didn’t know how good I

had it before, and let you down when you recognized my talent. Please forgive me.”

Rosalie followed Manfred closely, looking like a kid who had made mistakes.

“Please give me another chance. I promise, I won’t let you down this time!”

Manfred still didn’t turn around to address her, but he didn’t chase her out of his place either. He listened to Rosalie’s “confession of guilt” and led her to his study.

The moment she stepped through the door, she saw the tablet on the table on the desk. The video call

was clearly still going on.

Manfred settled into his seat calmly. Raising an eyebrow, he lifted his chin at Rosalie.

“What did you say out there earlier? I’m old, and my hearing isn’t what it used to be. Run it by me again.”

Rosalie took a deep breath, her tone sincere and solemn.

‘Prof. Fisher, I’m sorry. I was young and naive, and I let you down. Please forgive me.”

It was only now that Manfred slowly ended the video call, and his expression immediately turned serious. Picking up a thesis on his table, he casually tossed it to Rosalie,

“Take a look at it first.”
