Chapter 4 

“Flynn, I wasn’t lying. See how Sophie’s having episodes during daytime now?” 

Flynn’s face twisted with pain. He was about to call for Sophie when her cry pierced the air: 

“Mark, harder!” 

Flynn froze for three seconds before flying into a rage: 

“Has Mark lost his damn mind? 

How dare he lay a finger on my wife! 

Of all things–I hunt traitors worldwide only to find the biggest snake in my own backyard!” 

He summoned bodyguards to seize Mark. I grabbed his arm, shaking my head frantically: 

“Flynn, calm down. Just hear me out.” 

He shook me off: 

“Begging for mercy now? He chose this! 

No one’s stopping me today–he’ll pay for this!” 

I squeezed out a few tears, whispering brokenly: 

“I can’t control Mark either. 

Besides… Sophie was in agony from her condition. He just wanted to ease her pain.” 

Flynn jabbed a finger at me, snarling: 

“You knew all along, didn’t you? 

That’s why you made me come back–to watch this show?” 

I nodded through my tears.

He scoffed coldly: 

“Save your tears. You’ll need them when you bury him.” 

I tugged his sleeve and said: 

“Flynn, killing them would be too merciful. I have a better plan. 

Flynn, don’t you want to kick Mark out of the?” 

Though Flynn led the family’s covert operations, 

Richard Johnston favored his youngest son–Mark held equal shares to Flynn. 

I knew Flynn secretly resented this, yet couldn’t undermine Mark’s stake. 

As expected, my proposal instantly calmed him. 

“What’s your idea?” 

“Don’t worry about the details. I’ll tell you when I need your help. 

You won’t lose out, and that wretched couple will pay. 

But for now, don’t alert them.” 

Flynn shot me an unwilling glance, then forced a smile as he called out: 

“Darling, I’m home!” 

Sophie’s moans froze mid–air, followed by frantic rustling. 

She stumbled downstairs, panic etched across her face. 

“Hu… husband? Why are you back? 

Noelle? 

You’re here too?” 

She approached Flynn, carrying that distinct scent. 

Flynn feigned warmth: 

“Wanted to surprise you–wrapped up work early.

Aren’t you happy?” 

Sophie opened her arms to hug Flynn: 

“Honey, of course I’m happy! 

I missed you so much.” 

Flynn pushed her away abruptly, leaving her stunned. 

He made an excuse:

“I’ve been flying for over ten hours and haven’t showered yet. Don’t want any bacteria to infect you.” 

Mark came downstairs already fully dressed but flushed and sweating profusely. 

He sounded annoyed seeing me: 

“Weren’t you in Koh? 

Why’d you return without notice?” 

I pulled a napkin and pretended to wipe his sweat tenderly: 

“Darling, why aren’t you at work? 

Sweating this much? 

It’s not even hot today. 

Feeling sick?” 

Mark took the napkin guiltily: 

“No, couldn’t find a document at the office. Remembered it’s home. Just finished turning the place up- side down.” 

These two lied effortlessly. 

“Glad you’re fine. Thought you and Sophie were doing something shady here. 

Heard Sophie’s loud moans right after I entered. Skin hunger acting up again?” 

Mark swallowed, sweat beading on his forehead as he forced calm into his voice:

“Just coincidence. Sophie had an episode when I got back. I stayed to watch her, didn’t want anything to happen.” 

Flynn couldn’t hold back, cutting in: 

“How thoughtful of you, little brother. Watching Sophie made you sweat buckets. 

Didn’t wear you out, did it?” 

Sophie immediately jumped to Mark’s defense: 

“Don’t talk nonsense, honey. 

With you gone, Mark’s been a huge help. You should thank him properly.” 

Flynn walked over and landed a solid punch on Mark’s left shoulder, like brothers greeting: 

“Thanks for your hard work, Mark. Taking such good ‘care‘ of Sophie for me. 

The punch carried Flynn’s full strength, drawing a muffled thud from Mark.
