Picking up her phone, she saw a WhatsApp message from Kathie saying the furniture had already shipped from abroad and should arrive next week, the appliances would be delivered in the next couple of days, but the home theater she ordered 

would take another two weeks. 

Reading the message, Harriet replied to Kathie on WhatsApp 

with a smile, “Thanks, Kat. I just don’t have time these days. Maybe I’ll ask the property manager to keep an eye on the 

appliances for me.” 

Kathie replied, “Don’t worry! I’ve got everything arranged for you. 

I didn’t take your house key for nothing!” 

Smiling as she chatted with Kathie, Harriet’s door was suddenly 

knocked on. 

Harriet put down her phone and looked up. “Jacquelyn? My 

door’s not locked, come in.” 

Just earlier, when she went downstairs to get the basin, she ran 

into Jacquelyn coming out of her room, who asked if she 

wanted something to eat. Harriet said a glass of milk and a

Thinking it was Jacquelyn bringing her the milk and fruit, Harriet was surprised when the door opened and Ellsworth came in, 

carrying the milk and fruit plate. 

Seeing this, Harriet’s smile faded instantly. She looked at 

Ellsworth politely and said, “Oh, it’s you. I thought it was 

Jacquelyn.” 

She added, “Thank you.” 

After placing the fruit plate and milk on the table, Ellsworth 

pulled a chair over next to Harriet, then handed her the fruit 

plate and milk. 

At Ellsworth’s gesture, Harriet thanked him politely. 

Sensing Harriet’s politeness and distance, Ellsworth pulled the 

chair from her desk and sat down across from her. 

Ellsworth didn’t leave. Harriet looked up at him, feeling a bit 

guarded. 

But Ellsworth didn’t do anything–he just sat across from her and 

glanced at her feet.

Noticing this, Harriet looked down at her own feet, wiggled her toes in the water, and said, “I was on my feet all day, walking 

around. My feet are a bit sore.” 

Ellsworth looked up and said, “I saw you on the news tonight.” 

The room was very quiet, the atmosphere subdued. Ellsworth seemed quite proper tonight. 

Ellsworth said he saw it on the news. Harriet gave him a polite 

smile and said nothing more. 

Reaching for the milk, Harriet took a big sip, finishing half the 

glass in one go. Seeing that Ellsworth was still there, she said, 

“There’s nothing going on here. You should get some rest 

early.” 

After Harriet spoke, Ellsworth raised his right hand and gently 

wiped the milk from the corner of her mouth. 

Seeing how unreserved he was, Harriet quickly wiped her own 

mouth and, in the process, blocked his hand. 

The hand that Harriet had blocked hung awkwardly in midair for 

a moment. 

Ellsworth looked at Harriet for a while before finally withdrawing

continued chatting with Kathie. 

She hadn’t told Ellsworth about buying a house. 

For several days afterward, she went straight to the new house 

after work, tidying up, cleaning, waiting for the furniture to 

arrive, and adding some green plants to each room. 

Ellsworth, meanwhile, was away on another business trip. 

Harriet heard about it from Jacquelyn. 

Ellsworth had never taken the initiative to report his 

whereabouts to her. 

She never asked, either.

the office just as Reginald was coming downstairs.

So the next afternoon, after meeting Reginald and Jonas downstairs at the company, the group headed over together. 

Reginald and Jonas were dressed in their usual work clothes, and Harriet was in her office attire as well. Walking behind 

Reginald and Jonas, she looked more like the company 

secretary. 

Alvin’s birthday party was held at his home. 

When their car pulled into the Leach’s mansion, the area was already packed with vehicles. It took them quite a while to find a 

parking spot. 

Though it was called a party, it was more like a family gathering. 

The Leach family hadn’t invited too many people–just close 

friends and relatives, or colleagues from the research 

community. 

Otherwise, with the Leach family’s reputation and status, they
