The instant the door was kicked open, an elderly but imposing figure appeared in the doorway.
Through my blurred vision, I could make out a white haired old man slowly walking toward me, followed by bodyguards in black suits who formed a line behind him.
The entire private room seemed to freeze–even breathing became cautious.
Paisley’s arrogant expression instantly turned ghostly pale, her body trembling as she instinctively tried to hide behind Dash, only to be shoved away.
Dash wasn’t in much better shape–he was frozen with fear, barely able to stay upright by gripping the
couch.
“Mr… Mr. Ashford?”
Someone recognized Grandpa and called out in disbelief.
That single comment left everyone in the room stunned.
Someone whispered: “Ashford? Which Ashfords?”
Someone immediately tugged on their sleeve, whispering urgently:
“Which do you think? The Ashford Group that controls half the business in the city!”
“What’s he doing here? Don’t tell me that girl really is the Ashford Group heir–Mr. Ashford’s only granddaughter?”
Grandpa ignored everyone else and walked straight to me.
Two doctors immediately stepped forward and injected me with allergy medication.
His cloudy eyes swept over my blood stained face and the angry red welts, then his cane struck the floor
hard.
“Who laid hands on my Ashford granddaughter?”
Grandpa’s voice wasn’t loud, but it carried the force of an avalanche.
The private room fell dead silent.

Paisley’s lips were trembling as she tried to back away, but a bodyguard stepped on her heel. She grimaced in pain but didn’t dare make a sound.
Dash suddenly snapped back to reality and stammered an explanation:
“Sir… Sir… this is all a misunderstanding. We were just messing around with Luna. We had no idea she
was…”
“Messing around?” Grandpa cut him off, pointing his cane at the crushed pendant around my neck. “My family’s emergency signal device is for ‘messing around“?”
“No, no!” Paisley frantically waved her hands. “She accidentally pressed it herself! We had no idea what it
was…”
Grandpa stared at them coldly and said nothing more.
After the doctor treated me and administered the allergy injection, I gradually came back around.
Grandpa gently touched my head.
“Child, you’ve suffered so much. Don’t worry–Grandpa won’t let anyone who hurt you get away with it.”
I silently let tears fall as I hugged Grandpa tight.
I thought I’d never see him again.
My tightly wound nerves suddenly relaxed, and my eyelids felt heavy as lead.
I finally couldn’t hold on anymore and closed my eyes in exhaustion.
When I opened them again, I was in a hospital room, the sharp smell of disinfectant hinting my nostrils
Grandpa sat beside the bed, his wrinkled hand gently resting on the back of mine, his eyes red rimmed,
Mom and Dad stood across from us.
Mom was covering her mouth with a handkerchief trying not to cry out louch

Just then the hospital room door opened, and Paisley and Dash followed a nurse inside.
Dash looked at me with apparent concern and quickly walked to my bedside:
“Uncle, Aunt, Grandpa–thank God Luna’s awake. We’re her friends. Yesterday we were just fooling around–we had no idea her allergy was so severe…”
Paisley nodded frantically, wringing her hands with a fake smile:
“Yes, yes, it’s all our fault for not knowing when to stop.”
My parents looked at them with questioning expressions.
Dash pulled out his phone and found photos of us together.
They were from when we first met, taken at an amusement park. He had his arms around me
affectionately while I smiled brilliantly.
“I’m Luna’s boyfriend. We were… we were actually planning to get engaged.”
Mom’s expression shifted slightly.
I had mentioned to her once that I liked a guy and wanted to get engaged.
Back then I’d been completely fooled by Dash’s gentle facade.
But now, those memories felt like poisoned needles stabbing into my heart.
I suddenly turned my head and stared at Dash/with such pure hatred that it nearly overflowed from my
eyes.
Remembering his cold indifference when he crushed my emergency signal, remembering his mockery as he watched me suffocate–his face now only made me sick to my stomach.
Dash was so startled by my expression that he took half a step back, trying to maintain his
“Luna, don’t be angry. I know I messed up…”
Grandpa suddenly coughed and tapped his cane lightly on the floor:
“We’ll discuss the engagement later.”
He looked at Paisley and Dash, his gaze turning ice–cold:

“Everyone who was in that private room has been invited to the Ashford estate to be ‘treated well.‘ You’ll
all be staying until Luna can speak again.”
