Ex-Boyfriend 10

Chapter 10

The look in his eyes was enough to tear me apart.

Just as the police decided to detain Hubert, I suddenly proposed reconciliation.

Both the police and Hubert were stunned. After all, I hadn’t spoken a single word to him the entire time, nor had I made any attempt to communicate. I had been the one who called the police, and now I was the one dropping the charges. To them, my actions made no sense at all.

But since they had no reason to object, they had no choice but to release us both.

The moment we stepped out of the station, Hubert’s voice cut through the night like a blade. “What the hell are you playing at? Don’t think this means I’ll let you off. You caused Lianna’s miscarriage-I’ll make sure you pay for that!”

I looked at him with steady eyes and asked, my tone serious, “Hubert, in all the years we were together, did you ever once hear me ask you for money?”

My abrupt question caught him off guard. He hesitated, frowned, and finally admitted, “No. But what are you trying to say?”

“Nothing complicated,” I replied calmly. “I just want you to use that thick skull of yours and actually think.”

“In all those years with you, I never once asked for gifts. I never accepted a single transfer of money from you. Even when we went out to eat, I insisted we split the bill.”

“If I were really the kind of woman who loved to leech off others, why would I have been so scrupulous with you back then?”

My tone was even, but every word rang with conviction.

Hubert’s frown deepened, his expression tightening with a mix of confusion and unease.

I pressed on. “And another thing-you know I can’t even recognize all the mahjong tiles. Do you really think I’d gamble?”

“You know I’m allergic to alcohol, so I never touch a drop.”

“I’m someone who craves silence, who’s practically antisocial. Do you honestly believe I’d spend my days hanging around shady people?”

“If I were the kind of woman who couldn’t live without men, why would I have made you chase me for so long before agreeing to date you?”

I stepped closer, forcing him to look at me.

“And tell me this: if Lianna had really spent that much money on me, would I still be living in that tiny old apartment? When you smashed up my place, did you see a single luxury item lying around?”

“Hubert, I know you like Lianna. I know you’re biased against me. But think carefully-do the things she’s said about me truly add up? Do they really make sense?”

His face grew darker by the second, though he still didn’t respond.

I knew why. Lianna had always been good at playing innocent, gentle, considerate, and sweet. In front of him, she was the perfect woman, the one he couldn’t help but idolize, the one he trusted

above all.

But I wasn’t about to stop.

“I didn’t call the police because I wanted to see you detained,” I said firmly. “I did it because I wanted us to sit down and talk rationally.”

“Lianna isn’t the pure, obedient woman you think she is. The things she framed me for? They were her own doing.”

“If you don’t believe me, send someone to follow her. Check her daily routines.”

“Look into her family. Before she met you, they were barely scraping by on welfare. Now, just a few short years later, they’re the richest family in their village, envied by everyone.”

I let the words sink in before driving the knife deeper.

“All that money she claimed she spent on me? She spent it on herself, in her family-and even on other men.”
