The two of them stayed silent for a long while. Then Harriet
looked up at him and said, “Ellsworth, do you know what
nickname they gave me? They call me Ninja Turtle.”
After a pause, Harriet continued, “Ellsworth, the way outsiders
treat me is the way you treat me. I’ve never dared to hope you’d
lift me up, but could you at least let me go…”
Before Harriet could finish, Ellsworth cupped her chin and
kissed her lips.
With both hands pressed against Ellsworth’s chest, Harriet
frowned and tried to push him away, but he only held her tighter
and kissed her more deeply.
Ellsworth’s kiss was intense and lingering.
Harriet looked at him with moist eyes.
He was always like this–never letting her finish what she wanted
to say, never considering her feelings.
After the kiss, Ellsworth held Harriet, resting his chin on her
shoulder, and said in a low voice, “I’ll change from now on.”
Chapter161
Harriet looked up at him.
His promise was probably because she had just mentioned her
parents–he felt a bit of sympathy.
She didn’t respond to him. She didn’t agree.
Seeing this, Ellsworth hugged her, kissed her forehead again,
and said in a negotiating tone, “Didn’t we agree that you’d make the final decision after the legal department’s agreement
comes out?”
Harriet still didn’t say anything.
It’s just… it had been a very long time since anyone had hugged
her.
That night, Harriet tossed and turned, unable to sleep, while
Ellsworth spent the whole night watching her.
In the end, unable to stand it any longer, he pulled her into his
arms and soothed her to sleep.
Even so.
The next day, when Harriet drove to the lab, she still called the
legal department to ask about the agreement.
Chapter161
On the other end, the lawyer said, “Ms. Chavez, the assets can
be settled in the next couple of days. As you know, Mr.
Townsend’s family has a vast business, so these things always
take some time.”
“Mr. Hurley, this matter has been going on for a while. Please
try to speed things up.”
“Don’t worry, Ms. Chavez. I’m handling this personally. As soon as the agreement is ready, you’ll be the first to know.”
Harriet said nothing more, hung up, and put both hands back on
the steering wheel.
In the following two days, Ellsworth went on a business trip.
Harriet’s life returned to how it was before–living the single life
again.
When the weekend came, she dragged Kathie along to look at
houses, and the ones they saw were better than last time.
As for which one to buy, the two of them were still discussing it.

That morning, after finishing a meeting with Jonas and the

others and returning to her office, the internet was flooded with
news about Rushtar Group’s successful acquisition of Voyage
Group.
In the news, Kelsey wore a white blouse and black pants–a
business outfit–representing Rushtar Group at the acquisition
signing.
At the signing press conference, Kelsey was all smiles, radiant
and energetic.
Among all the men, she shone like a luminous pearl in the night.
Many men at the event looked at her with admiration and
delight in their eyes.
Such an outstanding woman, with such a good family
background–whoever married her would never have to struggle
in life.
Sitting at her desk, Harriet casually clicked on the news to take
a look.
But… she immediately spotted Ellsworth at the event.
He was back from his business trip.
Chapter161
She swiped her phone, zoomed in on the news photo–it really
was Ellsworth, back already.
He was sitting in the front row of the audience, and in the
photo, he was looking at Kelsey.
Harriet stared calmly at the photo for a while, then quietly put
her phone down.
Before his trip, he had said he wouldn’t be back for another
couple of days. Coming back early must have been for Rushtar
Group’s acquisition of Voyage Group–he was there to support
Kelsey.
Without a word, Harriet pulled a file from the cabinet, but just as
she set her phone down, it started ringing.
Seeing the number on the screen, the calm expression on
Harriet’s face instantly turned into a smile.
She answered the call and greeted warmly, “Grace, hello!”
A few days ago, she and Grayson had visited Gracelyn twice,
and Gracelyn had asked for her number and saved it in the
housekeeper’s phone.
On the other end, Gracelyn listened to Harriet’s voice and asked
Chapter161
in a slow, soft tone, “Hara, do you have time now? I really miss you. Can you come and play with me?”
Hearing the little girl’s words, Harriet glanced at her computer.
It was almost time to get off work and nearly lunchtime.
