Lines That Hit Hard: Important Quotes & Why They Matter

Several lines carry emotional weight, revealing hidden fears, desires, and vulnerabilities. These quotes serve as anchors that stay with the reader and deepen the impact of the scene.

Seeing Harriet sit down beside her, Tamera quickly handed the phone to Kathie, then pulled Harriet over and coaxed her gently,

Hara, Ells was beaten up badly yesterday. Do you think you’ve

calmed down now?”

Harriet said, Grandma, I’m not angry. It’s just that Ellsworth and

I aren’t suitable for each other.”

Listening to Harriet, Tamera tried to persuade her, You two

aren’t unsuitable. It’s just that Ells is indeed immature. But

Hara, if I were you, I would stubbornly refuse to divorce, just so

Kelsey doesn’t get her way.”

At Tamera’s words, Kathie, fiddling with the phone beside them, lazily said, My brother isn’t anything special. Why should Hara

be stubborn about this? If Kelsey wants him, just pack him up

and give him to her.”

Hearing Kathie’s words, Tamera reached out and pinched her

arm, They say it’s better to tear down ten temples than to break up one marriage. Why are you siding with outsiders?”

At this point, Tamera looked at Harriet again and said, Hara,

Chapter 157

don’t listen to Kat’s nonsense. You see, Ells knows how to hedge his betshe hasn’t even divorced yet and already found his next one. Hara, you should also find your next one first; it’s

not too late to divorce then.”

Tamera knew Harriet wouldn’t do that; she was deliberately stalling for time. But Kathie said, “Fine, I’ll introduce a boyfriend

to Hara later.”

With Kathie causing trouble, Tamera’s expression was easy to

imagine. She took off her shoe and hit Kathie a few times, “Give

me my phone back. I don’t want you messing with it. Go back to

your own room.”

Kathie’s antics made Harriet laugh.

Afterward, the two of them kept Tamera company in the

backyard for a while before heading back to the front villa

together.

The moon was as round as a plate.

This year’s trees were especially lush; when the wind blew, a

fresh fragrance wafted through the air, accompanied by a rustling sound.

The two walked side by side at a leisurely pace. Kathie said,

Chapter157

Hara, I think my brother likes you now. When I asked him this

morning, he implied that the marriage was voluntary and he

never thought about divorce.”

And that whole scene yesterday was clearly a ruse, clearly

because he doesn’t want a divorce.”

Walking beside Kathie, Harriet smiled and said, If he really

doesn’t want a divorce, it’s only because I’m obedient and

useful. Even Johnathan said, if this were two hundred years

ago, I could have a monument erected for me.”

Kathie said, “I think my brother cares about you now. You could

take this opportunity to make some demands, like asking him

not to get involved in the Ventura Tech partnership. You need

to look out for your own interests moredon’t be so naive.”

Otherwise, all these benefits will go to other women.”

Harriet just smiled without saying anything at Kathie’s advice.

A moment passed.

When the two returned to the villa, Ellsworth was no longer in

the living room.

Harriet went back to the bedroom. Ellsworth was there,

Chapter157

standing by the cabinet, taking medicine with a glass of water.

Dr. Fowler had prescribed him some antiinflammatory and painkillers yesterday, and he was much better today than he

had been.

Seeing Harriet return, Ellsworth said, Help me apply the

medicine later.”

Harriet replied, Okay.”

Agreeing, and seeing that Ellsworth was still busy with work,

Harriet took her clothes and went to the bathroom to shower

first.

When she came out after showering, she saw Ellsworth had put

down his documents, so she took the topical medicine and

waited for him by the bed.

At this moment, Ellsworth was wearing dark gray pajamas, and Harriet was also in a dark gray pajama set, making the two of

them look especially wellmatched.

He slowly unbuttoned his shirt and lay on the bed. When the wound on his chest was touched, Ellsworth let out a muffled

Mm.

Chapter157

The sound was quite suggestive.

Sitting by the bed, Harriet glanced at him and reminded, Don’t

make those noises when I’m applying the medicine.”

The point was, he wasn’t crying out in pain or saying it hurt.

His noises made her a little uncomfortable.

Ellsworth laughed at that, his laughter hearty, and teased, Do

my moans sound better than yours?”

Harriet raised her hand and gave him a slap. Be serious.”

Looking at Harriet’s prim expression, Ellsworth smiled and said,

Harriet, it really hurts.”

Since Ellsworth said it hurt, Harriet stopped joking with him, told

him to lie down properly, and helped him apply the medicine.

But… every now and then, he would still let out a muffled groan,

making Harriet too cautious to use much force.

When she applied medicine to the deepest wound and heard Ellsworth suck in a breath, Harriet instinctively leaned down and

gently blew on the wound.
