Chapter 110 The Highly Anticipated Surgery 

Evelyn got to enjoy the feeling of being the lead surgeon, while Rowan stepped in as the anesthesiologist despite being an experienced surgeon.

Once he was fully under, Evelyn exchanged a look with the two others in the room before beginning. 

She precisely cut open Perry’s trachea with a sharp scalpel, and the leeches clinging to the tracheal wall were immediately revealed. 

The trachea was extremely delicate. Even with the protection of muscle and skin, a small blow could cause it to rupture. 

So simply tearing the leeches away was out of the question. 

Evelyn had racked her brain in the archives, searching for any method that might work, but nothing helped. 

It wasn’t until Philip’s words gave her an idea. 

If salt couldn’t be applied directly to the trachea, then maybe it could be used in vapor form. That way, the damage to the body would be minimized, while still forcing the leeches to let go. 

It was a bold experiment, and it would be fine even if nothing comes of it. 

But if cutting into the trachea alerted the leeches to danger, they would burrow deeper. That would block the patient’s airway and lead to respiratory failure and death. 

That was why no other doctor dared to try. 

Evelyn focused all her concentration. She carefully blocked off every passage with tweezers and thin gauze, then began misting the area with saline. 

Though saline wasn’t nearly as strong as regular salt, to leeches that had been living in the trachea for so long, it was more than enough. 

Moments later, they began writhing, loosening their grip, and dropping one by one onto the gauze Evelyn had laid out in advance. 

Inside the operating room, everyone was busy at work, while the hallway outside buzzed with 

conversation.

At the center of it all was Albert Lowe, one of the older doctors, who led the discussion about 

the surgery. 

Albert was convinced the attempt would fail. 

How could leeches living inside the human body be easily removed? 

If an accident happened, Rowan’s retirement would be ruined, and his current position as chief of surgery would also be at risk. 

Albert still had three more years to go before retirement compared to Rowan. 

If he could take over Rowan’s role, then he could open his own clinic even after retiring. 

With the reputation of the former chief of surgery at Brookhaven Hospital, patients would flock to him. 

And money would pour in soon. 

Thinking of this, Albert turned and reminded the others, “Even if Dr. Cook fails later, don’t mock him. The man’s already old. Show some respect, alright?” 

The others thought he was truly concerned for Rowan and nodded in agreement. 

Of course, Albert wasn’t concerned at all. 

He only wanted to appear caring, so Taylor would see him as a responsible leader–making him the obvious choice to take over. 

After all these years at Brookhaven Hospital, he had never been able to get promoted because Rowan refused to retire. 

The frustration had built for so long, and now, he finally had the chance. 

In fact, he almost felt he should thank Evelyn. 

If not for her reckless plan, he wouldn’t have this chance. 

The more he thought about it, the more excited he became. 

He could hardly wait for the operating room light to go off, for Rowan to walk out with his head down, announcing failure. 

Back inside the operating room, the leeches in the trachea were soon cleared out.

Now came the hardest part–the leeches in Perry’s private parts.

He had mentioned recently noticing blood in his urine, constant discomfort, and the feeling of something blocking him, along with frequent urges to go. 

Evelyn concluded that the leeches had traveled through the urethra and entered the bladder. 

If they went any further, the consequences were unknown. 

Unlike the trachea, the urethra couldn’t be cut open. It was far too delicate, and being part of the urinary system made it even riskier. 

So Evelyn chose a different approach. 

She made a small incision directly into the bladder, just big enough for the procedure. Then, using the same misting technique as before, she targeted the leeches. 

Afterward, she inserted a catheter to drain the bladder. 

But instead of urine, she poured in saline through the small opening. 

The saline’s concentration was nearly identical to the body’s own fluids, so it wouldn’t cause leakage or other complications. 

The leeches in the urethra were smaller. And after being flushed loose with saline, they gradually deposited. 

After repeating the process several times, no foreign bodies remained. 

Still uneasy, Evelyn applied another round of misting. 

She was so focused on her work that she didn’t notice Tom and Rowan exchanging glances behind her, unable to hide their approval. 

She wasn’t just clever; she also possessed skill and courage. 

It wasn’t all talk. 

Though it was a brand–new attempt, her calm, methodical actions showed she had rehearsed 

surgery countless times in her mind.

Finally, after stitching up the last layer of the wound, Evelyn’s strength was drained. 

The operation had lasted five hours without pause, and her intense concentration had left her utterly exhausted.

Fortunately, Rowan had come prepared with a jar of glucose. He then fed some into Evelyn’s 

mouth. 

The sugar quickly helped restore her energy. 

“In the coming days, the trachea will still need mist treatments, and the bladder will require repeated saline flushes,” Evelyn instructed. 

“I know. I’ll arrange it,” Rowan said with a nod, then praised her. “Evelyn, you did an excellent job.” 

“Dr. Cook, I didn’t let you down,” Evelyn replied with a smile. 

“You didn’t let me down, and you didn’t let yourself down either,” Rowan said warmly. 

At that moment, the tension finally drained from her body, and all the exhaustion she had been holding back came crashing in. 

She was still smiling at Rowan when her body suddenly gave out, collapsing toward the floor. 

Tom and Rowan both rushed forward, catching her just in time to prevent a terrible fall. 

“I’ll find a wheelchair for her,” Rowan told Tom. “You get the patient to the ward for observation.” 

Rowan doted on Evelyn very much. 

Tom knew it and followed his instructions, wheeling Perry out first. 

The moment the operating room doors opened, a crowd surged forward. 

Because Perry’s trachea had been cut open, a breathable gauze was placed over his face to keep dust from entering the airway and infecting the wound. 

To the doctors waiting outside, Perry looked dead since his head was completely covered. 

No one was more thrilled than Albert. 

He had to dig his nails into his palm to keep himself from shouting excitedly, 

Putting on a mask of sorrow, he stepped forward. “How could this happen? It shouldn’t have ended this way!”
