Chapter 10

Xavier stubbornly turned his face away, refusing to look. “I’m not signing! Not unless you agree not to take the pack

assets!”

I yanked him out of the CEO chair and sat down myself, my tone mocking. “You think you’re still the Alpha of Blackthorn, still in charge of this company? You’ve been fired by the board.”

“Why?” he roared, furious.

I threw another document in front of him, filled with detailed expense records. “You thought I wouldn’t find out? All these years, you’ve been embezzling pack funds to buy Hanna estates, custom dresses, and limited-edition cars-every single transaction is recorded, down to the date. Sign and keep your dignity, or I’ll give this to the pack enforcers. You’ll lose everything, be stripped of your Alpha status, and might even go to jail. Your choice.”

Xavier’s hands trembled as he flipped through the evidence, each page a hammer to his heart. His shoulders slumped-he

knew he had no choice.

He signed the agreement, but the embezzled funds were still his responsibility. His family had cut him off completely, and he had nowhere to turn. He reached out to his so-called “brothers”-the ones he had been so generous with in the past, lending them hundreds of thousands without hesitation. He thought they’d help him now.

He called the first one, Mike, his voice pleading. “Mike, I need a favor-can you pay back the hundred thousand I lent you

last year? I’m in a tight spot.”

Mike, who sounded like he was at a party, laughed dismissively. “Xavier? Are you kidding? I used that money to buy a pack

SUV. I don’t have it to give back.”

“Then sell the car! Help me out, and I’ll buy you a new one later!” Xavier begged.

Mike’s tone turned sharp. “That’s my car! Why should I sell it? You’re so selfish! Did I ask you to lend me money? You just liked showing off your Alpha status, acting like you were the boss. Pathetic!”

He hung up. Xavier called others, but no one answered, or they blocked him-he later found out they were all with Mike, having agreed to “forget” the debts.

How ironic.

What he thought was loyalty, others saw as showing off. The brothers he’d given everything to wouldn’t even offer help

when he hit rock bottom.

He became the laughingstock of the pack, with nowhere to go but the seaside estate he had bought for Hanna.

When he arrived, Hanna ran up to him, wearing a custom white dress, twirling in front of him. “Do I look pretty? It’s

handmade by a French pack designer. Cost five hundred thousand!”

She linked arms with him, her eyes full of dreams. “My Alpha knight, when are we going to see your parents? And our bonding ceremony-we should set a date. I want it next spring, at the Blackthorn altar.”

Xavier’s eyes darkened, his voice hesitant. “Hanna, can you… return the dress? I need the money.”

Hanna’s face lit up with excitement. “What? You don’t like this dress? You want to buy me an even more expensive one?”

Xavier slumped on the couch, his head in his hands. Finally, he looked up, his eyes bloodshot. “Rosalie found out about the embezzled funds I spent on you. She’s threatening me-either I sign the dissolution agreement and leave with

nothing, or she’ll take the evidence to the pack enforcers, and I’ll go to jail, lose my Alpha status.”

Hanna’s face paled, and Xavier reached for her hand, pleading. “Hanna, we’re in trouble. You need to sell the estate, the car, and all your luxury bags to help me cover the debt. Once we’re through this, we’ll complete our bond, and I’ll make it

up to you.”

But Hanna stepped back, clutching her dress like it was her last treasure. “You going to jail has nothing to do with me! You gave me those things willingly-they’re mine now! No one’s taking them!”
