I stared at Charles in shock and asked, “You’re Gabriel’s son? Then you must be…” 

I looked down at the exoskeleton that had just allowed me to run freely, saying in disbelief, “You’re the developer of the exoskeleton, the project leader, and my business partner?” 

Charles nodded awkwardly. 

It turned out that Charles had known about me through financial magazines long ago. He had originally planned to have Gabriel contact me from back home to make me an investor in 

his project. 

But before he could reach out to me, I had my car accident. 

What was particularly coincidental was that the accident left me with high-level paralysis, while Charles’s research project. was precisely about helping people regain their “legs” through exoskeletons. 

Later, through Gabriel’s introduction, my team and Charles’s research lab established a partnership. 

During our collaboration, we frequently communicated via email and video calls.

However, because the project required confidentiality, Charles never showed his face during video calls. 

When we signed the partnership agreement, since I had mobility issues, my representative signed on my behalf. 

So I had never met Charles in person. 

No wonder he knew I was an investor in the hospital. No wonder he was so skilled when helping me put on the exoskeleton earlier, and asked if there were any improvements needed after the fitting. 

After revealing his identity, Charles’s ears gradually turned red. 

He looked into my eyes, his voice gentle: “Every time I communicated with you, I felt you were an incredibly wise woman. The longer I knew you, the more I was drawn to your charm. I couldn’t help but fall for you. I knew you had a boyfriend, so I didn’t want to interfere.” 

I asked him, “Then why did you change your mind?” 

Charles’s expression instantly turned serious: “Because the day I returned to the country, I heard Michael badmouthing you at the bar, insulting you with terrible words. He had you but didn’t know how to cherish you. He doesn’t deserve to stay by your side. So I decided to pursue you.”

I asked again, “Then why didn’t you reveal your identity directly and pursue me openly? Why did you become my personal assistant instead? And why did you take a job at the hospital?” 

Charles’s face instantly turned from serious to bright red: “Because I thought you liked the medical profession. Plus, being a doctor would allow me to help care for your legs. As your personal assistant, I could get close to you faster, and you could ‘test my abilities.’ I’m definitely much better than Michael.” 

For a moment, I wasn’t sure if the “getting close” I was thinking of was the same thing Charles meant. 

Before I could ask, Charles quickly added, “But we’ll have to wait three months. During the first three months, the fetus isn’t very stable.” 

At that moment, I was certain. We were thinking of the same thing. 

Even without asking, I knew Gabriel must have told Charles about my pregnancy. 

I accepted Charles’s pursuit and even promised him that as long as he passed his probationary period, we’d go straight to getting 

married. 

My life was going smoothly, while Michael ran into serious problems.

On the opening day of the private hospital, Michael confidently walked to the venue with Sarah, only to be stopped by security guards who wouldn’t let them in. 

Michael thought the new security didn’t recognize him, so he 

said, “Remember this. I’m the director of this hospital. Let me in right now.” 

Sarah also smiled and said, “I’m the director’s wife.” 

However, the security guard said with a serious expression, “Our director arrived early this morning. Where did you scammers come from? You actually dare to impersonate the director?” 

Michael immediately protested, “Impossible! This hospital is mine. I’m Michael. Take a good look at me.” 

The security guard firmly blocked Michael from entering, saying, “I can see very clearly. You’re exactly the person our director told us to watch out for.” 

Hearing this, Michael immediately panicked, his heart racing. 

Sarah loudly scolded from the side, “Let us in right now. The people inside are the real scammers. Do you believe I’ll call the police right now?”

Just then, someone stepped out of the elevator. As he walked, he said, “Go ahead and call the police. I wonder if they handle cases of ‘brothers getting involved with their stepsisters’?” 

The person who came was Charles. He looked at Michael with mocking eyes: “You live off women’s money while fooling around with your stepsister. You’re both morally corrupt and shameless.” 

Michael pointed at Charles and cursed, “What right does a man who depends on women have to criticize me? Get lost! This is my hospital.” 

The security guard turned to Charles and asked, “Should we call the police?”
