chapter63

Seeing Hayden remain silent, Romina added, “I knew her mother, we were on good terms. Because of that, I’ve been looking after the child, so in a way, I’m helping Mr. Bowman take care of her…”

Hayden nodded thoughtfully: “So that’s how it is.”

“Yes.”

Romina nodded gently, noticing the man beside her seemed to be looking at her, but with Jericho sitting across, she didn’t dare turn to meet his gaze.

Jericho, across from them, looked extremely displeased.

The pressure around him kept dropping lower and lower.

“Since the misunderstanding has been cleared up, there’s no need to pursue it further. It’s just a child, no need to make a big deal out of it.”

As Hayden said this, he tilted his head slightly toward Jericho.

Everyone knew these words were meant for Jericho.

Jericho didn’t say anything more, but when he looked at Romina, his eyes were filled with intense resentment.

“It’s getting late. I really do have an important meeting tonight, so I’ll be leaving now.”

Joaquin quickly stood up from the sofa, his voice low and hoarse.

“You’re not staying for dinner? Since you’re already back.”

Hayden looked displeased, his gaze shifting over.

Romina also stood up: “I happen to have something to do tonight as well, so I won’t stay for dinner. Would it be possible to get a ride with Mr. Bowman?”

Joaquin glanced at Romina, the corners of his lips curving in a half- smile: “Of course.”

Jericho quickly stood up: “You should ride with me!”

As soon as he finished speaking, he strode forward, grabbed Romina’s arm, and walked briskly toward the door.

When they reached the door, Romina immediately shook off Jericho’s hand. “I’m not going the same way as you…”

Jericho’s brows furrowed: “You’re not going the same way as Joaquin either! Why do you want to ride with him?”

Just as Romina was about to respond, a deep voice interrupted her: “I’m going to the company, it’s on the way for her.”

…………

Hearing the voice, Joaquin turned around and caught sight of the man standing behind him, his expression suddenly darkening.

“I can take a detour to drop her off, there’s no need for you to trouble yourself.”

Before Romina could respond, Jericho grabbed her wrist again and pulled her toward the car.

This scene made the man behind them furrow his brows sharply.

“Jericho, is this how the Bowman family taught you to treat women?”

The man’s voice, tinged with displeasure, came from behind.

Romina had already been shoved into the car by Jericho.

He rested his hand on the door, glanced back at Joaquin with a calm expression, and said, “Joaquin, sorry to make you laugh, but between my wife and me, we never bother with formalities. After all, that would be too distant.”

With that, he decisively closed the car door.

Orion, the assistant sitting in the driver’s seat, had already started the car slowly.

Romina looked at the man standing outside the window, but her view was soon blocked by a cold, shadowy figure.

She was forced to look away.

The partition inside the car was raised by the man beside her.

The next second, Romina was pulled closer by the man next to her: “Is Joaquin really that good–looking?”

The sudden closeness made Romina a little annoyed: “He’s better looking than you.”

Jericho was suddenly at a loss, and the hand gripping her waist tightened for a moment.

“Let go.”

Romina reached for her waist, trying to pry his fingers away,

“When did you and Joaquin become so close?” The man’s expression darkened. “Is it because of the child that you’re getting so close? You even dared to try to ride in his car right in front of me?”

Romina let out a cold laugh: “Are you really so clueless about the state of our relationship?”

“Since we haven’t signed the papers yet, you naturally have to fulfill

your duties as a wife, or else you’ll be criticized.”

The man’s hand unconsciously moved upward.

Without hesitation, Romina raised her hand and slapped him.

Seeing this, the man suddenly dodged, and the hand that had been resting on her waist missed its target.

“Smack—”

The slap didn’t land on his face, but on his neck.

Even though it was just his neck, it still hurt quite a bit.

“Are you crazy? You actually hit me?”

Jericho instantly looked up, covering the spot where she had hit him, his eyes suddenly filled with a chilling coldness.

“If you keep touching me, it won’t be as simple as just hitting you.” Romina’s voice was low. “Didn’t I tell you last time not to touch me? You brought this on yourself.”

“When did you become like this? You used to be so gentle with me, never even said a harsh word, but now you keep hitting me!”
