chapter48

The curse that came at him caught Jericho off guard.

He frowned deeply, his tone incredulous. “When did you

become so sharp-tongued and bitter?”

Romina had no intention of wasting more time with him. “I’m

busy. I don’t have time to chat with you.”

Jericho was furious, his gaze growing even colder.

After taking a few steps, he suddenly turned back, looking at

her seriously. “If you have time, hurry up and sign the

agreement.”

Before he could respond, Romina strode away quickly.

A man’s voice came from behind her. “If I sign now,

different from sending Grandpa to his death!”

it’s no

Romina paused for a moment, but ultimately did not stop.

She had thought that since Jericho didn’t love her, and she had

been to prison, it would be easy to get a divorce after her

release.

But she never expected that the biggest obstacle would be

Hayden.

Hayden treated her like his own granddaughter. How could she

bring up the matter at such a critical time?

Given the situation, she could only take things one step at a

time…

When she got home, Elliana was carrying several large bags

into Breeze Vista.

As soo

ntered, she saw many of Elliana’s

Sorry! I brought my stuff over without asking you first…”

Romina glanced at Lina, who was playing with building blocks

in the living room, then finally looked at Elliana’s face. “Don’t

tell me you got kicked out by your landlord?”

“You’re amazing!” Elliana gave her a thumbs up. “The landlord

said her son was coming back and asked me to vacate the place.

I’ve been so busy lately that I didn’t have time to deal with it,

and her son came back early, so I had to move my things here

for now!’

“Why don’t you just live with us from now on!”

Romina took out a pair of slippers, her smile bright.

“Really?” Elliana’s eyes lit up with joy. “Wouldn’t that bother

you?”

“Of course not! It’s just me and Lina here. If you move in, you

can help me look after her when you have time. Once the

wellness clinic opens, I’m sure I’ll be very busy!”

“Okay!””

Elliana agreed without hesitation.

During dinner, the two of them talked about what had

happened that day.

“By the way, how did it go with the contract signing today?”

Romina’s hand, holding her chopsticks, suddenly paused.

After thinking for a moment, she decided to tell Elliana

everything that had happened today.

“When I helped you look for a place, I checked out that area too.

The starting price was at least a hundred thousand…” Elliana

looked surprised. “How could Joaquin’s friend rent it to you for

so little? Even with the friendship and family discount, that’s

way too low!”

“I can’t figure it out either.”

Romina smiled faintly and didn’t say more.

Elliana changed the subject. “Have you found a school for Lina

yet?”

Romina nodded. “Yes, it’s all set. She can start tomorrow.”

“Auntie Romina, I don’t want to go to school…”

At that moment, a child’s tender voice broke the atmosphere.

Romina glanced at the child beside her, hesitating to speak.

Seeing that Romina didn’t respond, Elliana asked, “Lina, why

don’t you want to go to school?”

“I don’t know anyone at school. I just want to be with Auntie

Romina and Auntie Elliana…”

Lina’s voice sounded a little aggrieved.

Romina saw the child’s lips quiver, as if she might burst into

tears at any moment.

When she took Lina from the orphanage, Cade had warned her

that because Lina had long suffered from her father’s

mistreatment, she was somewhat withdrawn and might need

professional psychological counseling if necessary.

“Lina, don’t be afraid. The kids at school are all nice. They won’t

bully you. If anyone does, you can come tell Auntie, or you can

tell the teacher…” Romina bent down, getting closer to Lina, her

voice growing even gentler. “Okay?”

Lina pouted, but finally nodded. “Okay!”

Romina stroked her head. “Lina is the best. Next time, Auntie

will take you to the amusement park…”

A smile finally appeared on Lina’s face.

Just then, Romina’s phone suddenly rang.

She picked it up and, seeing the caller ID, her face instantly

darkened.

The caller was Jericho.

Without a second thought, she hung up immediately.

He called three times in a row, but she didn’t answer.

When the phone rang for the fourth time, Romina almost

reflexively wanted to hang up again, but when her eyes landed

on the caller ID, she suddenly froze.

The caller ID now read Joaquin.

Romina’s hand, holding the phone, suddenly paused for a

moment.

This was the first time Joaquin had ever called her on his own

initiative.

If there wasn’t something important, they wouldn’t be calling

her one after another.
