chapter45
“There is.”
Romina’s expression was very serious as she looked at Nadine
in front of her.
“Mom, it’s been so long already. Can’t you just let it go? Don’t be so petty!” Kashton suddenly interjected. “You didn’t see me holding a grudge over what you did to me last time, did you?”
As soon as he finished speaking, Romina’s gaze fixed on
Kashton’s face.
This was the child she had carried for ten months and given
birth to!
So, during that family dinner, he had been on Nadine’s side all
along, convinced that she was the one behind it.
A child’s mind was, after all, still very simple.
Someone must have been whispering in his ear, which was
why he was so sure it was her doing.
Just like when he testified in court for Nadine back then.
chapter45
She could never forget the unwavering attitude of that father
and son.
But he was right about one thing: the past was already behind
them…
Her heart had died once and been reborn from the ashes.
“I don’t want the deposit anymore. Rent it to whoever you like.”
Romina shot Valery a glance, then turned to head for the door.
Fortunately, the deposit wasn’t much-just a thousand dollars.
“Ever since my dad heard you were going to sign the contract,
he hasn’t looked for anyone else. If he has to start over now, it’ll
waste time. If you back out, you need to cover a month’s rent,
plus my dad’s effort and emotional damages-thirty thousand
in total!”
As soon as Valery finished speaking, Romina’s steps came to an
abrupt halt.
She turned and glared at Valery. “Who taught you to calculate
like that?”
“I don’t care!” Valery immediately started to play dirty. “I just

want you to pay me that much, or I’ll sue you!”
Romina suddenly let out a cold laugh. “We haven’t even signed
a contract. Where are you going to sue me?”
“If you don’t pay, I have plenty of ways to deal with you.”
After hearing her words, Romina gradually understood.
Maybe this house was a trap from the very beginning. This
woman never intended to rent it to her.
Her calculations were certainly shrewd!
Just as Romina was about to respond, a cold voice cut her off:
“Ms. Murray, that’s quite a tone. How exactly do you plan to
deal with her?”
Everyone turned their heads at the sound.
When they saw the man slowly approaching, everyone was
stunned.
Romina’s back suddenly stiffened.
Why was Joaquin here?
If last time at the orphanage was a coincidence, this time surely
chapter45
wasn’t.
Joaquin’s arrival not only threw Valery into disarray, but also
made Nadine, who had been watching from the sidelines, panic.
No one knew better than she did just how powerful this man
was in Straland.
Of all the people to provoke, he was the last one you should
mess with.
And it was clear he was on Romina’s side.
“Mr. Bowman, my friend was just joking with Ms. Sandoval.
She’s a straightforward person and likes to get straight to the
point. Maybe she just wanted to push for a deal in her own
way, but she never really meant to do anything to Ms.
Sandoval.”
Hearing this woman’s attempt to smooth things over, Romina
wanted to roll her eyes, but managed to hold back.
Joaquin curled his lips into a cold smile, then looked in Valery’s
direction. “If it was just a joke, then return the deposit as well!”
Hearing this, Romina couldn’t help but want to laugh.
Capital was still capital, after all.
It was nothing if not shrewd.
Not only did he stop her from paying extra, he was even
helping her get her deposit back.
“Mr. Bowman, you’re a businessman too, so you must know
that if the deal falls through, the deposit can’t be refunded.
Even though it’s not a lot…”
Before Valery could finish, the man cut her off: “Even a fly’s leg
is still a leg.”
“Pfft-”
Romina couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst out laughing.
Seeing the smile on Romina’s face, Valery was furious.
But when she met the man’s cold gaze again, she finally backed
down.
She replied softly, “Fine! Since Mr. Bowman has spoken, I’ll
return the thousand dollars to her first!”
Romina hadn’t expected that she would actually get her deposit
back so smoothly.
After the two of them walked side by side to the roadside, she
looked up at him. “Thank you, Mr. Bowman. You’ve helped me
again.”
The man’s voice was deep. “It was nothing.”
Romina hesitated for a moment, but finally voiced her doubt.
“But why are you here?”
“I just happened to be passing by and saw things getting a bit
heated, so I came in to see what was going on…”
