This woman had put herself in danger to save the children at
the orphanage.
By all rights, he ought to come and see her.

Elliana had gone out to buy food for Romina, so she was alone in the room.
When she heard a knock at the door, she thought Jericho had returned with the child.
But when she saw the tall figure at the door, she was suddenly

The man, dressed in a black suit and carrying an exquisite fruit basket, appeared at the doorway.
Romina’s hand gripped the bedding tightly, unable to stop herself. “Mr. Bowman, why are you here?”
“The director wanted to come by tonight, but something came
up at the last minute, so I’m here on behalf of the orphanage to
check on you.”
Joaquin placed the fruit basket on the bedside table, then sat
down on the chair next to the bed.
“Thank you, Mr. Bowman.”
“Where’s your friend?”
Joaquin lifted his deep eyes and glanced around, not seeing
Elliana anywhere.
“She went out to buy me dinner. She’ll be back soon.””
As her voice faded, the man didn’t respond, and a sudden
silence fell over the room.
Romina bit her lip and blurted out, “Mr. Bowman, thank you
for saving me.”
“You were unconscious. How do you remember it was me who saved you?”
Joaquin suddenly leaned in a little, his deep eyes tinged with
curiosity.
Romina spoke softly, “Before I lost consciousness, I remember

you rushing in and helping me avoid the falling chandelier…”
She only remembered him saving her from the chandelier,
unaware that he had later performed CPR and mouth-to-
mouth resuscitation.
“I truly admire Ms. Sandoval’s courage. Among all the women
present, only Ms. Sandoval had the bravery to rush in.
Joaquin leaned back in his chair, resting his hand on the top of
the chair, his long legs crossed, and looked at her with a calm
expression.
The sudden praise made Romina’s heart skip a beat.
Thinking back to what Jericho had just said, she suddenly
found it laughable.
Knowing one’s own limits.
Having courage.
It’s true-without comparison, there would be no hurt.
“Maybe it’s just that mothers can’t help but feel maternal when
they see children in danger.” Romina’s smile grew. “And I wasn’t
the only brave one-there were also the security staff, and Mr.
Bowman.”
The man lifted his deep eyes, and when their gazes met, his
lashes fluttered slightly.
After a moment, he finally said, “Do you know you almost died
right in front of me?”
Romina instinctively swallowed.
Every time she faced this man, that overwhelming sense of
pressure always made those around him tense up with ease.
He was clearly just sitting there.
He clearly hadn’t done anything.
“My friends all told me, apparently it was you who saved me at
the scene, otherwise…” Romina paused, then continued, “I
probably wouldn’t have made it.”
The man’s luminous eyes suddenly darkened.

“You should be grateful that the person you met was me,”
Joaquin said calmly. “Because I’ve had professional rescue
training, and I’m very familiar with CPR and mouth-to-mouth
resuscitation.”

When those words reached her ears, Romina’s eyelashes
trembled slightly.
She instinctively reached out to touch her own lips.
Although mouth-to-mouth and kissing were different, both
involved lips touching, both were close-contact.
Seeing her action, the man said softly, “Don’t overthink it, I just
wanted to save you.”
“I’m not overthinking,” Romina quickly lowered her hand.
“Thank you.”
Although this was the first time Romina and Joaquin had
officially met at the family dinner, she had already heard a few
things about him before.
For example, he was a clean freak.

At that moment, the door was pushed open from outside.
“Romi, I’m back.”
Hearing the voice, Romina looked up and saw Elliana returning
with some dishes.

apparently a major donor to that orphanage. He said the
director didn’t have time to visit me, so he came instead.”
“Rich, powerful, good-looking, and most importantly, a
philanthropist. No matter how you look at it, he’s way more

pleasing than your man at home.”
Elliana gave her a thumbs up, her smile growing wider.
Romina’s expression darkened a little. “He’s not really my
family anymore.””
