“Okay, woah. I can feel all of those cogs in your brain spiralling, little one.” Xavier kneels before me, taking my hands in his.Â
“I don’t even have my wolf yet.” I murmur. “I don’t feel the mate bond. I can’t shift. I’m just some orphan no one wanted. I can’t do all of this.”Â
“You will get your wolf. Maddox can feel her, she’s just sleeping, and we can feel the mate bond, it’s there, but even without it, you’ll come to like us, then hopefully love us, and we want you, we’re going to be here every step of the way, okay? No more being alone, we’ve got you.” He says so sincerely, marking every problem and checking them off on his mental list of things to do.Â
“Why me?” I sniffle, trying to contain the tears that threaten to escape me.Â
“Because the Moon Goddess decided you’re the other half of our souls. You’re perfect for us. You’ll see.” The others are nodding behind him in confirmation.Â
“How about we see if Aleisha will come help you get ready for the day?” Levi asks, seemingly always knowing what I need.Â
“That would be nice.” I offer him a half confident smile.Â
The bedroom door bursts open only a few minutes later and Aleisha rests her hands on her knees huffing out her erratic breathing.Â
“What’s wrong?! What do you four do to her?!”Â
They all growl in response but she doesn’t back down, instead she comes to sit beside me, almost shovingÂ
Xavier onto his ass.Â
“We didn’t do anything.” He growls.Â
“We just thought you’d like to help her get ready for lunch with Mum and Dad today.” Levi states and Aleisha instantly stops worrying.Â
“Eeeeep!” She squeals, examining all the bags across the floor. “Yes! Okay, I know the perfect dress!” She gets up and starts wildly rummaging through them before stopping to look back at her brothers. “You guys can leave now. I’ll bring her to the dining hall when we’re ready.”Â
They all grumble profanities at her, not wanting to leave obviously but they do. Haiden leaves with a wink as I watch Aleisha in horror throwing clothes and shoes across the room.Â
“Okay, soooooo?!”Â
“So?” I question, picking at a piece of invisible lint on the bed.Â

“SO?! SO!? How’s it going with my brothers?! I can’t believe we’re going to be sisters now! And you’re going to be here forever, and we can spend all our time together and I’ll finally have someone who can tell those boys what’s what! How are they treating you? I’m sorry about those bimbos yesterday, and the day before, my god, I told them they’re idiots for keeping them around and not putting them in their place. Do you feel any tingle of the mate bond yet? You know I could feel sparks with Tommy a full week before my birthday. Don’t worry, once it kicks in, you’ll fall head over heals for them and they’ll treat you like a bloody queen.”Â
She stops, pulling a black dress from a bag with an award winning “gotcha!”, and then looks at me. “So?!”Â
“This is all…a lot.” I sigh.Â
“Oh, girl! Come here!” She practically throws herself on top of me, squeezing my head in between her breasts and she hugs me.Â
“This is also a lot.” I laugh as she quickly releases me.Â
“I know, I get it, well kind of. The mate bond works in mysterious ways. You know the guys have always been best friends with Tommy. When we found out we were mates we tried to avoid it for way too long, scared that heads would roll with my brothers.”Â
“What happened?”Â
She smirks. “They ended up catching us in a linen closet in a very compromising position.”Â
“Oh my god.” I blush as she laughs.Â
“Yeah, we thought we were done for, but the guys were so happy that the Moon Goddess had blessed us. Nothing is more sacred to them than the Moon Goddesses blessing. Now go have a shower and put this on so we can do your hair and makeup.” She thrusts the dress at me. “I’m going to go get changed myself, I’ll be back.” She waves me off as she leaves. Realising how tightly I’m clutching the material I quickly release it, laying it on the bed and running my hands along the wrinkles to smooth it out,Â
I rush through the shower, washing everything I can with all the expensive and complicated products before I’m sure my skin is red raw, and I smell like an actual flower. There’s a big white fluffy towel that I reach for, realising it’s warm. One of the guys must have turned on some fancy contraption to do that. I realise I’ve left the dress on the bed, so I wrap the towel around me and wander out to get it.Â
“Fuck…”Â
Levi stands frozen in the doorway with a tray of food. His eyes travel the length of my body before landing on my eyes and staying there.Â
“Sorry, I, uh…” He holds up the tray. “Breakfast…”Â
I clear my throat and try to pull back in the fully body blush I’m now sporting while holding the towel aÂ

little tighter. “Oh, yeah, right, I forget. Um thanks.”Â
He weaves through the bags and clothes across the floor, passing me to get to the bedside table where he puts down the tray. When his impossibly large body turns around, I get a small whiff of something smokey, like a bonfire that I love on those full moon nights. I stumble backwards and almost roll my ankle on a shoe Aleisha had thrown. Levi’s hands wrap around my waist and hold me steady.Â
“Careful, doll.” His eyes flash to black and then back to green as he takes in a large breath through his nose and looks down at me. We’re standing way too close…and when his hand reaches up to tuck a bit of hair behind my head, I feel a light tingle where his fingers slide against my face. It’s euphoric feeling, mind blowing, mind boggling. I didn’t even realise I was nuzzling my face further into his hand until he chuckles, breaking the bubble I was floating in.Â
“Did you feel that?” He tilts his head like a curious pup.Â
I take a step back and his hands drop to his side.Â
“I uh, I should get dressed.” I look down at my feet, adjusting the towel.Â
He whimpers, or really, Flint whimpers, but he still seems to respect my boundaries, giving me a warm smile before leaving. What even was that?Â
I decide to eat before putting on the dress. I’m not sure how much all this stuff costs but I know it’s got to be way more than what I would ever spend on something to simply wear. It’s a hearty breakfast, way more than a simple granola bar I’m used to. Bacon, eggs, toast, sausages, hell there’s even a blueberry muffin. I love blueberry muffins.Â
