Chapter148
Once the paperwork was done, she didn’t want anything from Ellsworth; she would return it all at that time.
So, after spending a while with Raymond, Harriet went to the
main villa.
Not long after, when she arrived at Ellsworth’s room, the doctor
had already put him on an IV and treated his wounds. Patsy and
Kathie were there with him, while Colin hadn’t even bothered to
come by.
“Hara.”
“Hara, is Grandpa all right? Is he still angry?”
Hearing Kathie’s greeting and Patsy’s question, Harriet replied
gently, “Grandpa isn’t angry anymore. He’s calmed down.”
At this moment, the doctor turned to Harriet and instructed,
“Mrs. Harriet Townsend, Mr. Ellsworth’s wounds are quite serious. Although he’s had medicine and injections, you still
need to make sure the wounds stay dry and apply ointment in
time.”

“If anything comes up, you can call me at any time.”,
Hearing the doctor’s instructions, Harriet replied softly, “I
understand. Thank you, Dr. Fowler.”
Soon after the doctor finished packing up and left, only Harriet,
Kathie, and Patsy were left in the room.
The curtains in the room were drawn tightly, making the light
inside rather dim.
Ellsworth lay sprawled lazily on the bed, looking at the three
women standing by his bedside. His wounds hurt, but he also
found it funny.
Looking at Kathie and Patsy, he said lazily, “All right, I wasn’t
beaten to death. No need to stand in a row like that.”
Patsy rolled her eyes at him and said, “At a time like this, you
still have the mood to joke? Maybe Grandpa went too easy on
you today. You really must have been bewitched by the Graham
family.”
After Patsy finished speaking, Ellsworth didn’t say anything
more. He just glanced at Harriet.
Seeing this, Kathie tugged at Patsy and said, “Mom, say a little
less.”
She added, “Brother’s fine now. Let’s go out and let him rest for
a bit.”
After all the commotion just now, Harriet had probably talked
with Grandpa as well.
At this point, the two of them probably had things to discuss.
Hearing Kathie’s words, Patsy scolded Ellsworth a couple more
times before leaving with Kathie.
As soon as Kathie and Patsy left, the room fell silent.
Standing by the bed, Harriet looked down at the whip marks on
Ellsworth’s back. Thinking of his earlier joke, she couldn’t help
but smile slightly.
She wasn’t sad-not at all.
All that was left seemed to be a sense of being moved.
Or perhaps… in her relationship with Ellsworth, all she had left
was numbness.
Seeing Harriet smile, Ellsworth propped himself up, turned over to look at her, and asked in a flat voice, “Are you very happy?”
Pulling out the chair beside him and sitting down, Harriet looked
at Ellsworth and smiled calmly. “I’m quite moved.”
After a pause, she added a little awkwardly, “And I do feel rather
unnecessary.”
After Harriet finished speaking, Ellsworth didn’t want to say
anything more.
He simply withdrew his gaze.
At this moment, he didn’t even need to ask to know that Harriet
thought the whipping he got today was so he could be with
Kelsey.
Ellsworth casually looked away, and Harriet spoke again: “Don’t
worry, Grandpa has accepted it. He won’t interfere with our
divorce anymore.”
Hearing this, Ellsworth said coldly, “You can go about your
business now.”
Harriet replied, “Okay, then you get some rest.”
Since Ellsworth didn’t want to see her, Harriet didn’t stay long.
She got up, went to the open study nearby, picked up a book,
and sat on the sofa to read.
Chapter148
From time to time, she glanced at Ellsworth to check on his IV.
When the IV was finished, she quietly went over and helped him
change to another bottle.
There was no conversation; she just silently did what the doctor
had instructed.
Just as Raymond had said earlier, once the paperwork was
done, they probably wouldn’t see each other much anymore.
The room was especially quiet. Harriet sat quietly in the study
reading, and Ellsworth could see her at a glance.
Every time his gaze fell on her, every time he thought of her
calmness today, Ellsworth felt that his understanding of Harriet
was incomplete.
At every critical moment, she was rational and calm beyond
imagination.
Thinking back, he could understand.
After all, her heart belonged elsewhere.
A little after five, Ellsworth’s IV was finished.
After Harriet removed the needle for him, Ellsworth propped

himself up on the bed and sat up.
Seeing this, Harriet quickly asked, “Why are you getting up?”
Ellsworth replied lazily, “To go to the bathroom.”
Hearing this, Harriet hurried over to open the bathroom door for
him.
Ellsworth saw all of Harriet’s thoughtfulness and consideration
as nothing but politeness and distance.
