Chapter 5
After sending both sets of parents off on their travels, I was alone at home. As usual, I went to work, came home, and cleaned. I also received different photos sent by both sets of parents.
Mother–in–law: [Oh, my son is so filial! This eight–hundred–dollar tour is really something different!]
Mother–in–law: [Look at this big hotel, how luxurious! Country folks could never afford to stay in
such a place in their lifetime. My son is a city person now, with a car and a house. That’s really impressive.]
Mother–in–law: [Oh my, this Northwest is really different, this vast desert of yellow sand isn’t
something ordinary people can appreciate. In a couple of days, our tour guide is taking us to a
famous spot to check in; ordinary people can’t go in there, only those with our eight–hundred–dollar
tickets can enter.]
I looked closely at the photos my mother–in–law sent and frowned.
The package clearly stated a four–star hotel, but the place they were staying in didn’t look like it met
that standard at all.
It even resembled a low–end budget hotel.
I was just about to type a message, telling my mother–in–law to ask the guide about the
accommodation issue. I had typed a few words but then deleted them all.
Avoiding trouble is better than inviting it.
After so many years married to Cole, I knew exactly how to handle his family. If I spoke up about the
hotel being wrong, I would probably just get scolded by my mother–in–law.
Then I looked at the messages my mother sent me, which were all beautiful scenic photos.
I was looking at the photos Mom sent when Cole came home.
“You sent your parents off traveling, right?”
He asked casually while changing his shoes.
I nodded: “Yes, they’re having a great time. Want to see photos?”
As I spoke, I deliberately held my phone out in front of him.

However, he frowned and pushed my hand away: “I just got back from a business trip; I’m a bit tired. It’s good that they’re enjoying themselves.”
It was normal to be a bit tired after five days away on business; I didn’t think much of it.
Little did I expect that the very next day, I would receive a call from an unknown number.
