Chapter 33.
Christopher said, “What does that old man have that you keep lying to me about him?”
Christopher said, “Is this about revenge? Because I got Latoya pregnant?”
Christopher said, “I’m going to San Francisco right now. You’d better explain yourself.”
Christopher then sent her a message.
The last photo was taken when she and Vernon were talking, captured by someone else.
In the photo, Vernon was smiling and had his hand casually resting on her waist, while she lowered her head in a shy gesture.
The truth, however, was that Vernon had simply switched the briefcase to the other hand, and his hand had just dropped down. It was only because of the angle that it appeared to rest on her waist.
As for her “shyness,” it wasn’t real. The reflection from the fish in the nearby aquarium had cast a red hue on her
face.
The photo was perfectly timed and shot from an angle that left no room for doubt. It looked exactly like what the photographer intended it to look like.
The secretary suddenly spoke up, “Ms. Johansen, our boss has arrived. Would you like to personally try and convince him?”
Rosalind looked up, and right then, she met a familiar face.
The secretary quickly rushed over to speak on Rosalind’s behalf.“Mr. Benitez, there’s one candidate who is truly outstanding. Perhaps you could have a personal conversation with her before making the final decision…”
Eugene turned around, as if he had already known Rosalind would be there.
He gave her a sly smile and waved, then turned to the secretary.“No need to talk. I already know her well.”
Ten minutes later, Rosalind was invited to Eugene’s office.
She looked at the nameplate on his desk, which read “Chairman“, and struggled to comprehend it for a moment.
“How did a lawyer who had been practicing for over a decade suddenly become the owner of Wesley Hotel?” she thought.
Eugene tapped the nameplate and, with a playful smile, asked, “Surprised?”
“Definitely surprised,” Rosalind replied honestly. “I was worried that your lawyer’s salary wouldn’t match up with Christopher’s, but now it seems like a perfect match. A match made in heaven.”
Eugene snorted.“Should I thank you for the blessings?”
“If you want to hear it, I can wish you a long and happy marriage with many kids.”
Eugene’s face darkened instantly.
Rosalind grinned.“If I had known you were the owner of Wesley Hotel, I would’ve applied to your competitors‘
hotel first.”

Eugene shrugged indifferently. “It’s not too late to go now.”
“Honestly, I’ve already divorced Christopher. You were the one who walked me through the process at the courthouse. What exactly did I do to offend you? Why are you still targeting me after the divorce?” she shot back.
Eugene raised an eyebrow.“Do you really want this job?”
“Deep down, yes,” she thought. “Not just because Wesley Hotel is a leader in the industry, but also because my father had discussed an acquisition with Wesley Hotel before he was in jail. I want to find more clues from that time and expose the wrongdoers, clearing my father’s name.”
Suddenly, her phone rang.
As soon as Rosalind picked it up, she heard Christopher’s furious voice on the other end.“If you spend the night with him tonight, I swear I’ll–no matter whether you’re trying to get back at me or not, Rosa, I won’t punish you, but that old man. I’ll make sure his reputation is destroyed.”
Rosalind, furious, retorted, “I didn’t do anything with Vernon! He’s spent his whole life dedicated to teaching. Can’t you stop attacking innocent people?”
“You’re defending him?” Christopher snapped. “Rosa, I didn’t expect Latoya’s pregnancy either, but there’s a reason for everything. I promised you I’d deal with it. But I hope you also take care of yourself and don’t do anything irreversible.”
