chapter179
She said the only reason she was still willing to stay was because he had promised to divorce her.
But when he made that promise, he had only meant it as a stalling tactic.
He had never truly wanted to part ways with her!
He looked up at the woman who had already entered the villa, his brows furrowed into a deep knot.
Just then, his phone rang–it was a call from Audrey.
But this time, he pressed the hang–up button.
In the hospital room, Audrey stared at the call that had just been rejected, her grip on the phone so tight that her fin- gertips lost all color.
She was a woman; she knew perfectly well whether a man’s heart was still with her or not.
When had it started? When had Damian stopped treating her the way he used to?
She walked barefoot across the floor, gazing out at the city lights beyond the window.
Standing high above the city, she looked down at it.
Audrey thought of the small mountain village where she was born, of the night when the Lavigne family locked hin a sheep pen and tried to force her to marry the thirty–year–old local bully.
Back then, she managed to escape that place, and she told herself she would climb to the very top.
If she could escape that hellhole back then, now she could surely win Damian’s heart back.
No matter what the cost!
Claudine was woken up in the morning by the commotion downstairs.
She opened her eyes, feeling as if someone had split her temples open with an axe–the pain was intense.
She hadn’t felt it while drinking last night, but now the aftereffects were overwhelming.
She rubbed her aching temples, quickly freshened up, and changed into comfortable loungewear.
Only when she left the bedroom did she realize where the noise had come from.
The living room was filled with people, cameras, and lighting equipment already set up.
Damian was sitting on the sofa.

He wore a silver–gray suit, and someone was styling his hair beside him.
“Mrs. Barrette, you’re up. These are the outfits you’ll be wearing today. Please choose one, and I’ll go prepare the makeup station.”
A staff member approached Claudine, said this, and then hurried off to work.
It was only then that Claudine remembered Damian had mentioned they would be filming a promotional video for the company today.
How ironic, she thought.
After the chaos of last night, today they had to face the cameras and pretend to be a loving couple.
By now, Damian had already walked over to her side.
He naturally took her hand.
“It’s going to be a tough day for you. Let’s have breakfast first.”
With that, he led Claudine to the dining room.
The camera followed them closely. The staff explained that the PR department wanted to build Damian’s down–to- earth image by livestreaming their daily life online to generate buzz and attract attention.
So, the livestream had already begun.
Damian held Claudine’s hand tightly, probably afraid she would break free and refuse to cooperate with his perfor-
mance.
Claudine glanced down at their joined hands, finding it all rather ridiculous.
At the dining table, Damian thoughtfully pulled out a chair for Claudine, and the two sat facing each other.
The servants brought out the prepared breakfast.
“Have some soup first.”
Damian served Claudine a bowl of soup, and a staff member nearby exclaimed.
“Mr. Barrette is so considerate! Mrs. Barrette, you are truly blessed.”
Damian looked at the woman across from him, his gaze deep and intense.
“I’m actually the luckier one.”
“Wow!”
A staff member nearby couldn’t help but exclaim, “That’s so sweet!”
“Mrs. Barrette, seeing Mr. Barrette’s face every day, you must have built up some immunity! After this livestream, you’ll become every woman’s rival!”

Claudine smiled faintly. “I don’t actually see Mr. Barrette that often. Compared to me, he loves…”
Claudine paused, catching the slight furrow in Damian’s brow.
She knew Damian was afraid she would say something reckless in front of the camera.
“He loves his work more.”
After speaking, Claudine looked at Damian.
She tilted her head slightly. To others, it looked like she was being coy, but only Damian understood that this woman was warning him.
Warning him to keep his promise, or else she would reveal everything.
After breakfast, Claudine returned to her room to change her makeup and hair.
The makeup artist had prepared a Chanel early spring outfit to match Damian’s jacket.
Her refined makeup and gentle styling made Claudine in the mirror look almost unreal in her beauty. At a glance, it was clear she was a well–kept woman.
The makeup artist sighed beside her, “Mrs. Barrette, you are so beautiful. No wonder Mr. Barrette loves you so much!”
