Damian has left. You can check where Audrey is now. Damian should be going to find her.”

On the other end of the line, Theodore glanced at the time.

Do you know what time it is? Your husband is going to another woman in the middle of the night, and you want me to catch him cheating? Isn’t that a bit much!”

As soon as he finished speaking, the woman in his arms, who had just fallen asleep, was awakened and prote

annoyance.

Theodore mischievously pinched the woman’s waist, making her gasp coquettishly.

Claudine listened to the noises on the phone and cursed silently in her heart.

Do you really think with that little brain of yours, you can beat Damian at anything?

Isn’t he about to launch a new jewelry collection on your wedding anniversary? If news breaks that he secretly met his exwife late at night on the day of the press conference, wouldn’t you have your chance!”

Theodore, holding the woman in his arms, let out a long sigh.

Tsk tsk tsk, nothing is more poisonous than a woman’s heart!”

Claudine said, Go or not, it’s up to you!”

With that, Claudine hung up the phone.

She sat on the low couch on the balcony, watching the sky gradually brighten until the sun fully rose above the hori- zon. On this cold winter morning, the mist slowly dispersed.

Theodore sent her a video.

On the highway, a white BMW had crashed into the guardrail, its front end caved in.

A woman sat nearby, surrounded by several traffic police officers. An ambulance was present, and medical staff were checking Audrey’s injuries.

A familiar figure emerged from the morning mist. When Audrey saw the man, she pushed aside the medical staff and ran barefoot toward him.

She threw herself into Damian’s arms, sobbing and choking with emotion.

The morning mist behind them gradually dispersed, and a golden ray of light shone upon them.

Theodore’s comment was: a golden couple!

Claudine saved the video and got up to wash up in the bathroom.

After breakfast, Claudine called Damian.

The phone rang for a long time. Just when Claudine thought Damian was too busy to answer, the call was picked up.

What is it?”

Damian’s voice sounded tired.

Claudine heard Audrey’s voice through the receiver.

She said, Dami, don’t go. I’m scared.”

Claudine looked at the woman in the mirror, her face pale and bloodless.

She looked even less lively than Audrey had in the video.

Claudine heard Damian gently comforting Audrey, telling her he wouldn’t leave.

She spoke.

Damian, are you at the office? There’s something I need your help with.”

Damian glanced at the time.

I’m not going to the office today. What is it?”

Claudine said, Will you come home tonight?”

Damian’s hand was held by Audrey.

He looked down at the wound on Audrey’s head. Although he pulled his hand away, he spoke into the phone.

I’ll be busy for the next few days and won’t be coming home. What do you need?”

Claudine applied lipstick in front of the mirror. Her once pale complexion now bloomed with the vibrancy of a rose, yet her eyes remained dull and lifeless.

Prof. Hutchinson’s Antique Restoration Research Institute has a project they’d like you to sponsor. I’ve already pre- pared the project proposal and would like to bring it to your office for you to review.”

Damian glanced at the time. It was already nine in the morning, and he had a meeting at noon, so he needed to go to the office.

Come to my office at noon. I’ll be waiting for you.”

Claudine replied, Okay.”

After hanging up the phone, Damian looked at the IV drip in front of him.

I’ll go get a nurse to change your dressing.”

At that moment, Audrey grabbed his hand.

Damian’s gaze fell on their joined hands, his brows furrowing.

Audrey seemed oblivious to the man’s displeasure. She quietly let go of his hand, only to clutch the hem of his shirt instead.

Dami, can you please not leave? I’m really scared.”

Damian’s voice betrayed no emotion.

I’ll go get a nurse for you.”

Audrey still refused to let go.

I heard everything just now. You’re going to see Ms. Hogan.

Dami, please don’t leave me here alone. I never want to lie alone in a cold hospital again.

Dami, do you know something?

When I first arrived in Brythonia, I fell seriously ill. The doctors said it was because I hadn’t rested properly after giving birth, and the stress made me collapse.

I was alone, lying in the hospital for more than half a month.

Every day, all I could think about was that I might never see my child or my loved one again.
