Chapter124

Chapter124

Because Ellsworth wouldn’t let her use the back door.

Resting her face on her hand, she gazed indifferently out at the

night, not speaking to Ellsworth.

She had long since become indifferent to seeing him and

Kelsey together.

After all, when Kelsey first came back, the two of them had already given her a big ‘gift’-making her go to the hotel to deal

with a scandal.

With both hands on the steering wheel, Ellsworth turned to glance at Harriet, seeing her staring intently out the window. He took his right hand off the wheel, pinched Harriet’s chin, and

turned her head toward him: “You don’t even want to look at me

anymore?”

Harriet removed Ellsworth’s hand and replied calmly, “No.”

She just wanted to look outside, just had things on her mind.

Harriet didn’t turn back to look outside again. Ellsworth withdrew his hand, gripped the steering wheel once more, and

Chapter124

asked in a calm voice, “Darrick gave up his seat for you tonight.

Why didn’t you play?”

Harriet replied, “I don’t know how. I was just there to keep Kat

company.”

Ellsworth said, “You’ll get it after trying a couple of times.”

Harriet responded with an indifferent ‘oh,’ perfunctorily saying,

“Maybe I’ll try next time if I get the chance.”

Harriet hadn’t expected that tonight, Ellsworth would leave

Kelsey behind and go home with her.

After that, the car fell silent again. Harriet stared ahead for a

while, then habitually turned her head to look out the right

window.

At this hour, there were few cars on the road, and it was

especially quiet both inside and outside the car.

The stereo was playing music, the volume very low.

Occasionally glancing at Harriet, seeing her quietly by his side,

Ellsworth suddenly felt that maybe this wasn’t so bad after all.

When the car stopped at the villa, and the two of them went

inside together, Jacquelyn and the others had already gone to

bed.

Back in the room, after showering, Harriet lay back down on the

bed.

She had wanted to sleep back at the restaurant, and now she

couldn’t hold out any longer.

A little while later, when Ellsworth returned from the bathroom

and saw Harriet already asleep, he rubbed his hair and couldn’t

help but chuckle softly, “So carefree.”

Everyone said Harriet liked him, but all he ever saw and felt was

obedience.

Now, all that was left was politeness and distance.

They couldn’t go back to the way things were, not even as

friends.

Drying his hair, Ellsworth stared at Harriet for a long while

before finally walking over to the bed and standing by her side.

Bending over, he gazed at Harriet for a moment, then reached

out to brush the hair from her forehead and asked softly,

“Harriet, who is the love in your heart? Who is that person?”

Chapter124

Marriage on the outside, love on the inside.

Thinking of that phrase, of every word in her diary, of the deep

feelings in her writing, Ellsworth couldn’t help but smile.

A smile tinged with self-mockery.

He watched Harriet for a long time like that before finally

turning off the lights and lying down beside her.

***

The next day.

When Harriet opened her eyes, it was already ten in the

morning.

Ellsworth was already up, wearing dark gray loungewear,

standing by the floor-to-ceiling window making a phone call.

Hugging the blanket, Harriet closed her eyes again, not wanting

to get up.

A moment passed.

When Ellsworth finished his call and came over, he bent down

and stroked Harriet’s forehead, asking, “Still not getting up?”

Chapter124

Harriet opened her eyes to a slit and said softly, “I want to sleep

a bit longer.”

Ellsworth didn’t straighten up, maintaining that posture as he

gently asked, “Any plans for today?”

Harriet replied in a calm voice, “I’m going back to have lunch

with my grandpa later.”

Last week she had dinner at the Townsend mansion; this week

she wanted to visit her own grandfather.

After Harriet finished speaking, Ellsworth’s phone rang again in

his pocket.

He picked up his phone, glanced at the screen, stood up, and

walked back to the window before answering.

“Okay, I know. I’ll go to Galaxy Innovations next week.”

“Alright, that’s fine.”

Ellsworth handled the call efficiently. When he turned back after finishing, Harriet was already up and had made the bed.

Seeing that Harriet was already up, Ellsworth, holding his phone, walked over and said, “I have something to do today, so I won’t

be able to go back with you for dinner.”

Patting the neatly made bed, Harriet straightened up and

replied gently, “It’s fine, you go take care of your business.”

In fact, she hadn’t planned on having Ellsworth accompany her

home for dinner anyway.
