Chapter113

Chapter113

Turning to glance at Harriet, Ellsworth regained his usual calm

and asked her in a mild voice, “If it hadn’t been for my

grandfather’s arrangement back then, if I had proposed myself,

would you have agreed?”

Ellsworth suddenly brought up this topic, and Harriet turned to

look at him again, not knowing how to answer for a moment.

She stared at Ellsworth, and memories of the past flooded her

mind.

Ells, if we run away like this, will the teacher be angry?

Ells, you lied to me. This stuff is so spicy, so hot, so hard to eat.

Ells, stop fighting, stop fighting, he didn’t bully me.

The one I like isn’t her type.

Do you think Harriet is worth it?

Ellsworth, let’s get a divorce.

Memories played in her mind like a movie, and Harriet still didn’t

know how to answer him.

So, she quietly withdrew her gaze from Ellsworth and turned to

look at the night outside.

She didn’t give him an answer.

The flowerbeds and buildings by the roadside flashed past her

eyes, and she thought of all the care and concern she had

shown Kelsey, and how nervous he had been that night in the

hospital.

She had never seen him so nervous about anyone else.

So, she didn’t tell Ellsworth that if she hadn’t fought for it back

then, if she had listened to Grandpa and the others, he would be

calling her ‘sister-in-law’ now.

Harriet turned to look out the car window. She didn’t answer his

question, and Ellsworth didn’t press her further.

Silence was already an answer.

The last time at the Rockville Resort meeting, she had already

given him a clear answer.

It wasn’t because of love, and even less because of liking.

Chapter 113

More than twenty minutes later, after they returned home, they

each went their separate ways-one to the guest room, the other

to the master bedroom.

In Harriet’s room, she quietly took her clothes to the bathroom. While showering, her mind was filled with Ellsworth’s earlier question-if it hadn’t been for Raymond’s arrangement, if he had

proposed, would she have agreed.

If he had asked her that right after they got married, she would

have answered him without hesitation, firmly and resolutely.

But… after all that had happened, whether she liked him back

then, or whether she still liked him now, no longer mattered.

Not long after, Harriet finished her shower and came out of the

bathroom, when her stomach suddenly started to hurt.

It was a sharp menstrual cramp.

She put down the towel she was using to dry her hair, pressed

her hands to her lower abdomen and rubbed gently, her brows

furrowing deeply.

Maybe it was because she’d had too much iced boba tea and

iced coffee in the past few days, so now her stomach hurt.

Chapter113

Even though her period hadn’t started during her shower, it still

hurt a lot.

Her face was a bit pale, and sweat beaded on her forehead and temples. Harriet rubbed her stomach for a while, but the pain didn’t lessen-instead, it grew worse. She picked up her cup and,

still rubbing her stomach, walked toward the door.

However, just as she opened her door, Ellsworth came out of

the neighboring bedroom.

The two met. Harriet instinctively straightened her back, then

gave him a slight smile as a greeting.

Noticing Harriet’s pale face, Ellsworth asked, “Not feeling well?”

Holding her cup, Harriet shook her head. “No, it’s just a

stomachache.”

When Harriet mentioned her stomachache, Ellsworth

understood. He didn’t ask further, just took the cup from her

hand.

Seeing this, Harriet reached out to take her cup back and said,

“No need.”

Ellsworth looked down at her, his gaze brooking no argument.

Chapter 113

Harriet reluctantly withdrew her hands and politely said, “Thank

you.”

Ellsworth took the cup downstairs to get her some hot water,

while Harriet turned back to her room and sat down by the bed.

She kept her hands pressed to her lower abdomen, gently

massaging.

A moment passed.

When Ellsworth came back upstairs with the hot tea, he was

also carrying a hot water bottle.

It was a very old-fashioned hot water bottle.

Taking the tea Ellsworth handed her-he had made hot cocoa-

Harriet felt a wave of warmth as soon as she wrapped her

hands around the cup.

Looking up at Ellsworth, Harriet politely said, “Thank you.”

Ellsworth didn’t say anything. Instead, he bent down, picked up

one of Harriet’s pajamas from the bed, wrapped the hot water

bottle in it, and then handed it to her.

With the cloth in between, she could hold it to her stomach

without burning her skin.

Seeing Ellsworth hand her the hot water bottle, Harriet quickly put her cup of brown sugar ginger tea on the nightstand, took the prepared hot water bottle, and quietly tucked it against her

stomach.
