She pressed the answer button.

“Dami, is there something you need?”

On the other end of the line, Damian was troubled by the broken antique pieces on the table.

He spoke.

“Audrey, there’s something I need your help with.”

Audrey’s voice was as gentle as water.

“Dami, between us, don’t say ‘help’. Just tell me, what do you need me to do?”

Damian said, “I have a piece of broken antique I want to restore. You’re a professional, so I wanted to ask if you have any suggestions.”

Audrey was happy that Damian needed her, but then she complained playfully.

“Your wife is also an antique restoration specialist, and she’s still Prof. Hutchinson’s student. Why don’t you ask your wife to help you!”

Damian didn’t explain, he just said, “If it’s too much trouble, I can ask someone else!”

Audrey said, “Hey, don’t be so hasty, I never said I wouldn’t help!

“Restoring antiques is a professional job. Bring it to me and I’ll fix it for you.”

Damian thought for a moment, “This antique means a lot to me. I want to restore it myself.”

Audrey was very curious about what kind of antique could be so important.

“Then bring it over, and I’ll teach you how to restore it.”

Damian glanced at the time; it was already ten o’clock at night.

“I’ll wait for you in the café on the first floor of the hotel.”

After saying this, he hung up before Audrey could say anything else.

Audrey had thought he would come to her room, but unexpectedly, he asked to meet in the cafe downstairs.

She gripped her phone, and a plan quickly formed in her mind.

The Hogan’s mansion.

Darlene slept until evening.

When she opened her eyes and saw herself in a strange room, she was so frightened that she burst into tears.

The maid heard her and immediately came to comfort her.

But faced with a stranger, Darlene cried even harder.

The maid had no choice but to call Claudine.

“Where’s Damian? Isn’t he here?”

Claudine didn’t know Damian wasn’t home.

The maid replied, “The son-in-law left half an hour ago, didn’t say where he was going.

Ms. Hogan, you’d better go check on the child. She won’t stop crying, Ms. Hogan. You and Mr. Hogan were never this good at crying when you were little.”

Claudine glanced at the time. It was so late, if Darlene kept crying, she would wake her mother up.

She walked toward the guest room, instructing the maid to prepare a light dinner.

Before she even entered the room, she could hear Darlene’s cries.

It was indeed her usual hysteria.

Claudine entered the room, and before she could speak, Darlene ran over and threw herself into her arms.

She clung tightly to Claudine’s neck, her tears soaking Claudine’s shoulder.

Her small body, as she rushed over, made Claudine feel her deep fear and dependence.

But Claudine also knew that Darlene’s dependence was because Audrey and Damian were not there.

“Alright, don’t cry anymore.”

Claudine wiped Darlene’s tears.

“Your father went out, he’ll be back soon. Let’s go eat something first, okay?”

Darlene sobbed.

“My dad won’t come back tonight, Claudine, can I sleep with you?”

Claudine frowned.

“How do you know he won’t come back tonight?”

Darlene raised her phone watch.

“Mom told me. She said Dad is going on a date with her tonight.”

Claudine glanced at the chat page, and saw the photo Audrey had sent.

It was a café.

Ha.

Those two really are quite loving!

They couldn’t even wait one night, leaving their daughter behind just to go on a date!

Claudine took out her phone and snapped a picture of that photo.

It was only after overhearing the conversation between Claudine and Bridgette that Damian finally understood: what Claudine cared about most was not Audrey, but rather, her desire for a genuine, heartfelt relationship.

But he could not give her that.

He knew very clearly that he did not love Claudine.

He also knew that if he wanted to maintain this marriage, he would have to do something to show his sincerity.

To him, Claudine was the most suitable wife in every respect.

As a competent businessman, he naturally knew how to exchange the smallest cost for the greatest benefit.

Divorce and remarriage would not only damage his and the Barrette Group’s reputation, but would also shrink his as-

sets.

Rather than wasting time dealing with those matters, it was better to think about how to make Claudine give up the idea of divorce.

He returned to the bedroom and immediately saw the pile of fragments on the table.

Damian sat down at the table and picked up the shards.

He recalled that just now, Audrey had come to see him.

If, when Audrey first returned, he hadn’t understood her intentions, now he saw them clearly.

But there was absolutely no possibility between him and Audrey.

If he continued to let things go on like this, Audrey would only fall deeper, and in the end, it would damage the friendship between them.

It seemed it was time to find an opportunity to make things clear to Audrey.

Looking at the pile of fragments, Damian came up with an idea.

The Twilight Hotel in Reedport.

When Damian arrived at the café on the first floor, Audrey was already there.

He walked over and sat down in front of Audrey.

Audrey was very satisfied with her outfit tonight.

She knew Damian didn’t like anything too coquettish, so she had deliberately chosen a white tweed dress. The design. at the waist accentuated her slender figure, making her look petite and charming.

She wore only light makeup, appearing to a man’s eyes like a lotus just washed by rain-fresh and natural.

After so many years abroad, Audrey knew very well how to cater to different men…

She had completely changed her demeanor from earlier in the day; now, she seemed to have instinctively retreated to a proper distance, treating Damian only as a friend.

“Would you like some coffee? Or Blue Mountain?”

Damian nodded.

“Sorry to bother you so late.”

Audrey called over the waiter.

“One Blue Mountain coffee, and one iced Americano.”

After ordering, Audrey looked at Damian.

“There’s no need to be so polite with me. What kind of antique do you want to repair? I don’t have many tools with me. If it’s a valuable antique, I might have to take it back to Bronzevale to fix it.”

Damian placed the box on the table.
