chapter133

Claudine’s face was turning bluish-purple, the pain and her instinct to survive making her clutch Damian’s hand with both of hers.

Her fingernails left scratches on the back of his hand.

They were supposed to be the closest of spouses, but now, they were like mortal enemies.

As the air in her chest grew thinner, the hand around her neck only tightened.

Claudine couldn’t tell if the pain in her heart was from lack of oxygen or from the man before her.

She thought, maybe dying like this wouldn’t be so bad.

At least, if she died, no matter how powerful Damian was, he wouldn’t be able to trap her anymore.

This thought flashed through her mind, and Claudine let go, giving up her resistance.

She let Damian choke her, calmly waiting for death to come.

Claudine’s complete lack of will to survive finally snapped Damian back to his senses.

His grip loosened, and Claudine’s body went limp, collapsing to the floor.

“Mrs. Barrette, are you alright? Mrs. Barrette, wake up!”

Morgan looked at the mess before him and was already preparing his resignation letter in his mind.

What a bunch of troublemakers!

Damian’s hand hung at his side, his arm trembling slightly inside his sleeve.

Just now, he had almost killed his wife.

It was as if only now did he realize what he had done.

“Claudine!”

Damian bent down to check Claudine’s injuries.

The ring of bluish-purple bruises around her delicate neck was glaringly obvious.

“Claudine, wake up!”

Damian was overwhelmed by a fear he had never felt before.

A storm of terror, worry, remorse, and guilt raged in his heart.

He called Claudine’s name over and over, until…

Claudine grabbed a shard of the antique and stabbed it into his arm, her own palm bleeding profusely from the frag-

ments.

She gave Damian one last hateful look, then fell into unconsciousness.

One moment Damian was worried about Claudine, the next, the sharp pain in his arm left him momentarily stunned.

The warmth in Damian’s eyes faded away bit by bit.

He let go of Claudine and slowly straightened up.

Morgan spoke to the security guards.

“What are you standing around for? Call for emergency help, now!”

“Don’t call!”

Damian stared coldly at Claudine.

“Not a word of what happened today is to be leaked! Get a doctor here and treat her in the hotel!”

Damian bent down, picked up Claudine, and carried her toward the room.

The security guards cleaned up the mess in the corridor. One of them pointed at the already unconscious Roberto.

“Manager, what should we do with this man?”

Morgan rubbed his temples.

“What else can we do? Didn’t you hear Mr. Barrette say this can’t get out?

Take him to the lounge and get a doctor to treat him!”

After saying this, Morgan glanced at the tightly closed door in front of him and left with a sigh.

Inside the hotel room.

Damian sat on the sofa by the bed, his face dark and grim.

He ignored his own injuries, letting the blood from his wounds soak his shirt.

He looked at the unconscious woman on the bed, the bruises on her neck constantly reminding him of what he had just done.

He had never lost control like this before.

This feeling of being out of control was unfamiliar and unsettling.

When the doctor knocked and entered, seeing the two of them, he couldn’t tell for a moment which one needed urgent

treatment more.

Damian’s shirt was almost soaked through with blood.

He did seem to be in more immediate need.

“Mr. Barrette, let me bandage you first.”

Damian replied coldly.

“See to her first.”

The injury on Claudine’s neck was not serious; the doctor prescribed sedatives and calming medication.

Damian’s arm wound was more troublesome, with several glass shards embedded in the flesh that needed to be care- fully removed one by one.

The doctor carefully worked with tweezers.

Damian paid no attention to the pain in his flesh.

He stared at the woman on the bed, his mind replaying the moment Claudine gave up resisting and seemed to wel- come death.

Was she really in so much pain by his side?

So much pain that she was willing to give up her life?

Damian just sat there on the sofa, sitting through the entire night.

He looked at his right hand, the back of which still bore the scratch marks left by Claudine as she struggled.

After that incident, it had been a long time since he had lost control and gone mad like he did yesterday.

Even now, he could still feel the pulse of Claudine’s veins beneath his palm, and if he hadn’t come to his senses in time, would he really have…

Damian looked up at the woman lying on the bed.
