Damian endured the cacophony surrounding him.

He

gave Claudine a light smack on her backside.

“Quiet!”

Whether his strength was too much, or Claudine was simply too drunk to process things normally, it was hard to say.

She suddenly vomited with a loud “Wah!”

All the filth landed squarely on Damian.

After emptying her stomach, Claudine finally quieted down.

But Damian’s face was now so dark it was almost frightening.

If he didn’t know Claudine’s temperament, and if she hadn’t been unaware of his presence in the room, Damian would have suspected she did it on purpose.

After removing Claudine’s coat and laying her on the bed, Damian sniffed himself in disgust.

He had a mild case of mysophobia and simply couldn’t tolerate wearing a dirty shirt.

Damian took off the shirt and tossed it straight into the trash.

Before heading to the bathroom, he messaged Lindsay, asking her to bring a clean set of clothes to Willow Creek Vil- las.

Even after removing the dirty shirt, Damian still felt an unbearable stickiness.

Without waiting for Lindsay’s reply, Damian went straight into the bathroom.

Upon receiving the message, Lindsay resignedly climbed out of bed.

Damn it!

Damn capitalist!

Is a worker’s life not a life too?

But as she stepped out of her bedroom and saw her nearly hundred-square-meter living room, she let out a sigh.

“Lindsay, get a grip!

What’s sleep, what’s rest!

Without this job, could you afford a place like this in Bronzevale?”

After a bit of self-brainwashing, Lindsay grabbed Damian’s clothes and drove to Willow Creek Villas.

She parked in the garage, took the clothes, and entered the elevator.

As she pressed the floor button, she realized she hadn’t asked Damian where to deliver the clothes.

Lindsay’s finger hovered indecisively between the 16th and 17th floors.

She thought she should call Damian.

If she delivered to the wrong place, it would be more than just a matter of a shirt.

Lindsay dialed his number and waited a long time, but no one answered.

Just then, the elevator began to ascend slowly.

Someone on another floor must have pressed the call button.

Listening to the mechanical voice on the phone, Lindsay could only helplessly dial again.

The elevator stopped at the first floor, and the doors opened.

Lindsay was surprised to see a young girl standing before her.

“Darla?”

She glanced at her phone; it was almost one in the morning.

It was so late-why was Darlene, a child, not at home sleeping but here instead?

Darlene rubbed her sleepy eyes and softly called out, “Ms. Powell.”

Lindsay quickly picked up the child.

“Darla, why aren’t you sleeping so late? Are you alone?”

Darlene yawned as she spoke.

“Axel won’t sleep, so Mom and I came down to play with it.”

Before Darlene could finish, she fell asleep on Lindsay’s shoulder.

“Darla?”

Lindsay wanted to ask more, but just then a large black dog rushed into the elevator, startling her.

She was about to scold whoever was so inconsiderate to walk a dog off-leash at night, when Audrey appeared.

“Ms. Powell!”

Audrey was surprised to see Lindsay. “What are you doing here?”

Before Lindsay could answer, Audrey crouched down to pet the big dog’s head.

“Good boy! Good boy!

Feeling better now?”

Lindsay frowned.

Did Audrey not notice Darlene in her arms?

Was she really taking Darlene out so late just to walk the dog?

If someone else had been here instead, Lindsay couldn’t imagine what danger Darlene might have faced.

But Audrey seemed unconcerned.

She cared more about the dog than about Darlene!.

But Lindsay was just an outsider, and Audrey was Damian’s ex-wife, Darlene’s biological mother.

Naturally, she couldn’t say anything.

Audrey played with the dog for a while before standing up to press the floor button.

Only then did she remember Lindsay again.

“By the way, Ms. Powell, what brings you here so late? Do you live here too?”

With Audrey’s question, it was clear Mr. Barrette must be at Mrs. Barrette’s place now.

Lindsay pressed the button for the 16th floor. “I’m delivering something to Mr. Barrette.”

When Audrey heard Damian was on the 16th floor, her expression froze for a moment, and she said nothing more.

The atmosphere in the elevator grew increasingly tense.

Lindsay watched the numbers change, just hoping they’d reach the 16th floor soon.

The big dog beside Audrey seemed to sense something, growling uneasily.

The dog was huge and intimidating, and in the cramped elevator, its growl was even more unnerving.

Lindsay hugged the child tightly, inching away bit by bit.

She was almost pressed against the elevator wall.

With a “ding,” the elevator doors finally opened.

Lindsay hurried out, carrying the child.

Audrey naturally followed.

Lindsay pressed the doorbell.
