Chapter 15

Harper wiped the coffee stains from her collar, only worried that it wouldn’t be cleaned properly and noticed by Ava. She absorbed it on her own, not feeling wronged or crying.

Previously, to make money, she had been splashed with hot soup by a client. A cup of iced coffee was nothing.

“I’m sorry, I’ll go buy it again.” Harper was about to leave when Noah called her back.

These days, she had been hardworking and patient, doing even better than the original assistant. She didn’t complain about the difficulties, and Noah felt a bit embarrassed, “Don’t go.”

He took the coat beside him and said, “Put it on and go back by yourself.”

The woman sat up, “Noah-”

Noah frowned and threw the coat to Harper, “I just don’t want Aunt Ava to know. Take it.”

With that, the car sped away.

The two people inside the car saw everything. Ethan muttered, “I told you she’s good at playing the victim.”

He lit another cigarette, and Mason suddenly got out of the car and walked over.

The chill that came from afar cooled Harper. She looked up and met Mason’s gloomy face. The spark from his ciga- rette pricked her eyes.

Harper shivered from the cold, “Mr. Brooks.”

Mason was silent. He raised his knuckles and made a move as if to press the burning cigarette onto Harper’s arm. As the scorching heat approached, she didn’t retreat.

“Foolish, don’t you know how to dodge?” Mason promptly withdrew the cigarette and stamped it out. “Don’t you know how to dodge when someone splashes coffee or throws garbage at you?”

Her skin had almost been burned, but Mason had no idea that Harper already had cigarette burns on her body.

Speechless, she just didn’t want to start a conflict. She wanted to stay. Was that a mistake? When she was willful and arrogant, he hated her. Now that she was gentle and humble, why did he still look down on her?

Fortunately, she wouldn’t cry for Mason anymore.

“Speak,” he repeated.

A sudden car horn interrupted them.

Mason and Harper looked in the direction of the sound. A car was parked by the roadside, and the window rolled

down to reveal Liam’s stern and heavy face in the back seat

“Ava told me you’ve changed a lot. I don’t see it.”

The lighting in the study was poor. When someone walked in, it felt like falling into an abyss with no bottom. At the bottom of the abyss sat a judge. With a wave of his hand, he could determine life or death.

Harper’s hair hung over her face. Her chin was sharp and thin, with no extra flesh. Her once bright eyes had dimmed over the years.

Liam sat opposite her, suddenly short of breath.

No matter what, she was the daughter he had raised for years, the one he had cherished and protected, the one who could ask for the stars and never settle for the moon.

“Do you blame us?”

“No.”

“After all these years out, have you come to your senses? Will you do those foolish things again?” Before Harper could deny it, Liam continued, “If you do, the Walker family can’t protect you.”

Harper no longer had the innocent and bright aura. She became quiet and reserved. “I understand.”

Liam sighed deeply, “Since you understand, why are you still with Mason? Haven’t you given up yet?”

Harper denied it quickly and flatly.

“It’s not like that. I just happened to run into him.”

“Hopefully that’s the case.” Liam’s voice deepened, and he spoke earnestly, “Harper, no matter what, we did truly care for you in the past. The Brooks family has talked about the engagement many times, but Mason never agreed. Over the years, he’s been hoping you’d stay dead outside.”

“Ava asked me to be with Noah. If he agrees, I will marry him.”

Liam’s relief was bought at the cost of Harper’s pain. “It’s good that you think this way.”

The days of continuous rain disappeared. Ethan packed his luggage and made plans to stay for two days at the resort villa on Leoaie Mount in Moridise.

Ava tried hard to persuade him to bring Harper along.
