Chapter 9
Victor never heard from me again. He smashed everything in the house in a frenzy, blaming Deborah for it all. He be- lieved her repeated provocations had cost him me completely.
Otherwise, why had the previous forty-three been fine, only for things to go wrong when she came along?
Coincidentally, Deborah, now at odds with him, came demanding compensation for her youth.
Watching her lips move, Victor snatched a fruit knife from the dining table in a trance. He lunged forward and stabbed Deborah in the stomach.
When my friend called to tell me, her voice was thick with regret. “Such a fine person… how did it come to this?”
“Deborah’s parents are hounding him relentlessly, demanding a life for a life. But really, they just want a huge payout from the Ramirez family to buy a house for their second son’s marriage.”
“Fortune Company is pulling its investment because Timothy breached the contract by replacing the project head. The whole company is in turmoil. Old Mr. Ramirez had to step back in despite his illness. No one at Timothy’s place is having an easy time now!”
Though I sighed, my heart remained unmoved,
After all, Timothy and I truly had nothing left between us. Some shackles should’ve been broken long ago.
Right after the court finalized the divorce, Keith proposed to me.
His outstanding achievements and knowledge had made him a sought-after cardiologist.
No matter how busy or tired he was, the glass of warm water by my bedside was always perfectly timed.
