I handed Deborah not only the divorce papers but also my resignation.

Back then, countless firms offered me opportunities-a top university grad who’d secured unbeatable contracts for Timothy-yet I stayed solely for Victor.

I devoted myself completely, pouring every ounce of youth and talent into Timothy and Victor.

Only to be kicked aside like road grit beneath his shoe.

What he discards, others will treasure. Leaving Timothy was never a loss!

After a week’s wait at home, Deborah’s message finally arrived.

A photo-the signature unmistakably Victor’s.

Soon after, she mailed the documents to my chosen address.

While retrieving them, I passed a renowned bakery.

Emerging, I carried a cake box home.

The lock clicked-the door swung open from within.

The man before me smirked, grabbed my parcels, swept me into his arms, and kicked the door shut.

He dumped the bags on the sofa, striding nonstop toward the bedroom.

“It’s still daylight!”

I clutched his collar in panic.

He grinned. “Can’t wait.”

The day I “found” Keith Miller, it was pouring rain outside.

I went to the public hospital to change my bandages when a commotion broke out in the crowd, sounding like an ar- gument.

The doctor treating me sighed helplessly. “That young man is truly devoted. He earned both his college tuition and his grandmother’s medicine money himself. What a shame he ended up with such heartless parents.”

“Well, you can’t say that exactly. The old lady’s illness really doesn’t give her much time left.”

After my bandages were changed, I walked past the crowd and realized the person they were talking about was him. I

remembered his name-Keith Miller.

I didn’t want trouble, yet my feet seemed rooted to the spot, unable to move.

I watched him kneel, begging the doctors to treat his critically ill grandmother. I watched his parents viciously curse the old woman on her sickbed, calling her a burden, a deadweight.

Finally, I watched him stand hopelessly in the downpour, soaked to the bone.

I held my umbrella over his head. He stared at me in surprise.

“How much is left for the medical fees? I’ll cover it all.”

After that day, he followed me home. He told me he had nowhere to go, that nobody wanted him.

Except his grandmother. And me.

He also told me that after returning home that day, his parents had searched his phone, discovered the large sum in his account, and sweet-talked him out of every penny-with no intention of using it for his grandmother’s treatment.

“Am I stupid?”

I looked at this heartbroken man before me and nodded under his slightly hopeful gaze.

He looked even more heartbroken.

I chuckled softly, tilting my head up to place a kiss

“Stupid, yes. But kind too. I haven’t met someone like that in a long time.”

I never saw Keith Miller as anyone’s replacement. He wasn’t a stand-in for Victor Ramirez.

He existed entirely apart from Victor.

Victor Ramirez grew up navigating circles of fame and fortune. He’d never lift a finger for anything requiring effort without guaranteed reward.

Yet that’s precisely what made him proud, arrogant-forever blazing like fire.

No matter how warm the flames, one careless moment and you’d get burned.

But Keith? He was like a glass of warm water by my bedside each night.

He treated everyone around him who showed him kindness with gentle sincerity. His attentiveness, his tenderness-it was exactly what I’d been craving.
