It wasn’t that I was secretly hoping Bruno would love me. I just didn’t want trouble. I didn’t want to have anything to do with my ex anymore. He took my family’s company. He could finally marry the woman he loved. He should have been happy with that. However, at the wedding… Bruno waited inside the grand hall, dressed in a black tuxedo. He was supposed to look noble and elegant, but at the moment, he was staring at his phone and repeatedly calling a familiar number. “Damn it!” Bruno cursed under his breath, glaring furiously at his assistant. His gaze was sharp as a knife. The assistant, startled by Bruno’s sudden burst of anger, shook slightly. He quickly snapped out of it and looked at Bruno in confusion. “What’s wrong, sir? What happened?” Bruno snorted. “Doesn’t she know what day it is today? To think she’s still not here!” The assistant froze, then suddenly seemed to remember something. He quickly pulled out his phone and dialed a number. As soon as the busy tone came from the other end, his face instantly went pale. “Sir, this is an invalid number,” he stuttered, cold sweat rolling down his forehead. What kind of wedding would this be if the bride went missing?! “This can’t be happening!” Bruno’s brows furrowed; he snatched the phone from his assistant and checked it himself. In all honesty, it felt less like a hospital and more like a resort. Patients here weren’t restricted and were given complete freedom. The only requirement was that a nurse had to accompany you when you went out. As for the money I got from selling my shares and my assets? As long as I didn’t squander it like some spoiled brat, it would last me a lifetime. I never had big ambitions anyway, or my father wouldn’t have handed the company over to his trusted subordinate. Despite that, he still gave me a chance.. When he passed, he left most of the company’s shares to me. My good father ensured my future was secure in every way.  I stood by the floor–to–ceiling windows, enjoying the view outside. Emergency patients were being carried out of ambulances, and others were pushed into wheelchairs by nurses for some fresh air outside. There were also people rushing by, begging doctors to save their loved ones. Occasionally, I could even overhear influential people threatening the doctors here while I stood by the door. There were all types of different people in this facility. It was quite interesting. Before long, the nurse notified me that I could start preparing for my heart transplant. While I was being wheeled into the operating room, Bruno was desperately searching for me from across the world. Not that I had any idea, of course. When I left the country, I had already changed my number and blocked him.

The smell of disinfectant filled the hospital, making the atmosphere feel a little stifling. After I left the country, Bruno and Raine remained at the hospital. A round of medical examinations later, it was confirmed that Raine’s baby was fine. The doctor prescribed some medication to help stabilize the pregnancy, and advised Raine to rest more and keep a positive mood. Bruno, who had been anxiously waiting by Raine’s side, finally let out a long sigh of relief when he heard the news. Then, an image flashed through his mind–my pale face as I collapsed on the floor before he left. Perhaps it was because she sensed Bruno’s distraction and worries, Raine said casually, “Bruno, Ms. Lawson didn’t push me on purpose. Maybe we’ve just been spending too much time together lately, and she’s starting to notice things. But is it really alright for us to leave her at home like this?”  Bruno’s face was cold. “She deserved it.” Maybe it was because I had escaped his manipulation, and that rendered him unsure of what to do, or maybe he just wanted to teach me a lesson. Either way, he spat, “Let her stay home and reflect on her actions for a while so she won’t stir up trouble before the wedding!” Hearing this, Raine formed a faint smile. “Now that we’ve got the shares, Ms. Lawson isn’t needed anymore, is she? Your wedding…” Before she could finish, Bruno cut her off without hesitation. “The wedding will go on as planned.” His tone was no longer as gentle as before; it was much colder. Even his eyes, which used to be full of affection, seemed to be  covered in a hint of darkness. One could tell there was a flicker of accusation in them. Raine lowered her gaze, hiding the hatred in her eyes. Aelia Lawson again! Why did Bruno still want to marry her even when she had no value left? Yet no matter how dissatisfied Raine was inside, she still had to play the role of the understanding woman in front of Bruno. “Why don’t you come over to my place tonight?” she asked.
